One of my chickens is sitting on the ground, in a corner of the chicken house not moving. When I picked her up she threw up on me. The vomit was running like either mucus or like she had been eating eggs, and smelled like chicken poop. The hen in question is a 3 year old Rhode Island Red who...

Anyone grow chokeberry in their chicken yard? Inside my chicken yard is a sweetgum tree. I thought about planting some shrubs under the tree to provide the chickens with protection from hawks and shade. While I am planting, why not plan something that grows an edible fruit? The black...

I wanted to look at one of my Dominickers last weekend. So I caught one in the chicken house, was looking at it, when it bit me. This thing latched on and would not let go. The bite was not painful. More to the point this girl is not going to put up with any crap. Of course my wife took a...

This is one of the major things you want to look out for in your baby chicks. It is only really a problem for the first few weeks. Don't freak out it is easy to deal with, just let your wife do it! If left untreated this can kill the chick.

Awhile back I started a thread on building a new chicken yard. Now that the yard is pretty much complete (for now), the time has come to build the new chicken house. The size I decided on was 16 feet by 16 feet. The laying boxes take up 6 feet on one wall, and the roost takes up around 12...
