They guys over at The Prepared put together a comprehensive guide to matches and match containers:
Honestly, I like the Cevinee Waterproof EDC Keychain Capsule Tube for a daypack, bug out bag... etc. Being able to keep a match holder on a lanyard...
Has anyone else noticed in their area, that you can't buy regular strike on box matches or strike anywhere matches any more? Is it just my area? WTF? Only those worthless "green" things that take five or 6 matches to light something are what stores carry around here. How about where you are?
I read on another forum that they had them and called my local Kroger.
They do have them and I think they are the are the small ones, 32 per box 10 boxes to a bundle for 99cents:)
Going there first thing in the morning.
Will let ya know tomorrow.
As I read through thread upon thread about what to have in a BOB/GHB or EDC car kit, it seems that everyone and their uncle has matches. Waterproof matches, strike anywhere matches, etc., and I just cant understand why. Sure, I have a box or 2 of the strike anywhere in my home, but I just can't...
I saw some strike on box matches at shop 'n save that were 6 boxes of 48 per box, and were 85 cents each. How long would these last if I were to put some in an ammo can? Would waterproof matches last longer?
Im sure alot of you probably know how to do this but in case some dont this is an easy way to make waterproof matches without buying them.
Things You’ll Need:
Burn the wax candle, and allow wax to pool around the flame.
How much of a stockpile do you keep of matches? What kind do try to keep on hand? Can you find the strike anywhere matches?
A buddy of mine gave me 8 big boxes of the strike anywhere kitchen matches. Besides those I have another 4 or so boxes of the "strike on box" kitchen matches.
