Mountain House Beef Stew is probably one of the better rounded meals from Mountain House. The beef, peas and carrots were all consistent with each other. The gravy had plenty of flavor. There was nothing bland or overbearing about the beef stew. Overall, this is going to be added to my preps.

Review of the Mountain House Breakfast Skillet. Probably the worst mountain house meal I have tried so far. Very bland with an overpowering potato taste.

The Mountain House Beef Stroganoff With Noodles was pretty good. The instructions called for 3/4 cup of boiling water, which is six ouneces. I added just a tad under 8 ounces. Let's say 7 1/2 ounces. Even with that, next time I will add a little over 8 ounces. Some of the pieces of beef...

I posted a video on youtube about stockpiling freeze dried food. Several people commented that mountain house pouches are now rated at 30 years instead of 7 years. Does anyone have the details as to when and why mountain house extended the life of their pouches? Did mountain house change...

What are some of the Simple & Easy Food Items you should throw in your grocery basket when you go to the market (where ever you shop)? I'm talking about simple Items like $10.00 worth of pasta. Extra cans of Tomato sauce. I've discovered that Top Ramen noodles do go rancid, but the packets...

Stopped in today to get pictures and saw that they're clearing out these products for around $5/$7 depending on the meal. Pretty good deal but they were all gone except BP Beef and Potatosand MH Apple Crisp :(. I'm sure others are following suit so I figured i'd let you guys know so you can hit...

Trying some food items I have put back for testing. I just polished off a can of beef ravioli that was almost two years past "best by" date. It still tasted fine. As fine as canned beef ravioli can taste. Also, had a can of Vienna sausages that was five months past. All fine....so far. A can of...

I'd like to begin storing a 3 month supply of food stored for 4 adults. I'm based in South Florida and plan to keep the preps in a closet but cannot guarantee climate control if electricity is lost. I don't have the money to purchase this all at once so would like to purchase maybe a week at a...

Is plain rice as opposed to rice mixes (like rice a roni) preferrable? I know the cost is lower, yet I always read that we should serve what our family is used to. There's also the issue of convenience of a rice mix. Storage of smaller mixes is also a factor. I looked in the forum, but...

spotted an interesting article posted on Survivalmom.com; http://thesurvivalmom.com/2012/07/12/mountain-house-educates-consumers-on-the-presence-of-high-oxygen-content-in-competitors-products/ Oregon Freeze Dried down in Albany, Oregon decided to evaluate Wise Foods claims to 25 year shelf life...

I had the unfortunate experience to forget that I had a service call bright and early this morning at my house, and groggily got dressed and ran to answer the door. Because I'd completely forgotten about it, when the rep asked if he could go ahead and check around my house on things, I waved him...

Well I am fairly new to the forum so hello to all! I have been quietly reading a lot of posts, and decided to start my food storage. I purchased roughly 100 Ball Mason jars, mostly quart sized some pint sized, and I have Foodsaver jar lid sealers, a brakeline handpump, and 300cc oxygen...

My local Aldi had the sealed long-term storage German pumpernickel and rye whole grain breads (17.6 oz loaves) for $.59/loaf. You may want to check out your local Aldi to see because the shelf life is over a year.

Just a small rant. Please ignore if you don't want to read something like this. Eat what you prep, prep what you eat. Rotation is critical. Really? This is just a personal opinion, and I'm not knocking those who say buy only what you eat, eat what you prep, and rotate your food as essentials...

So I'm looking to buy some pre-made food for SHTF storage. What brands of food and mre's are the best for the price on the market right now? I was looking at the wise grab n go buckets. Mainly because of the easy storage. But im wondering if their is anything else that is on market at comparable...

So this is just my opinion to play the devils advocate, if nothing else. Feel free to argue otherwise :-) . Why waste money on an MRE? First of all, after eating like 6 billion MRE meals in the field and over seas I can say that they officially suck and you never get any damn jalapeno cheddar...

I recently got 3 different types of breakfast cereal for 99c a box :thumb: 15 boxes of cereal later, I'd like to know the best way to keep them. I was wondering how long I can expect these to last if I mylar & O2 Ab them in 1 gallon bags? Anyone tried this? I will rotate, but I'd just like to...
