I purchased a US Military surplus Army MOLLE II Assault Pack (Backpack). With it came a ton of extras, like the MOLLE II Waist Pack, and the MOLLE II Hydration System Carrier. It also came with the MOLLE II Combat Load Carrying Vest. When it comes to the backpack in particular, there are so...

The more skills you have, the less equipment you need to rely on. Most if not all of the equipment I carry is for comfort, ease of living. I could go into the bush with nothing at all, but that is hard work & there will be no comfort until I have managed to set myself up with everything I need...

I passed my Technician and General Amateur Radio exams last weekend, so now I am shopping for my first gear. I want to start out with a simple man-portable walkabout/bicycle-friendly kit for urban or woodland recon, bugout/bugin, and get home. (Later, as I become more proficient, I will explore...

Just thought I would post my equipment update. Nothing much has changed, I am sure by now most of you will know my preference for sustainable equipment & methods rather than modern gadgets. This is my new original 18th century fire steel. As you can see, it has been well used over the past 300...

The wife and I are heading overseas for vacation in a little while and she insists that I get a carry on/daily trip type bag for daily use (no man purse jokes please!). I was actually taking a tactical bag for such purpose (minus weapons of course) but I was wondering what the security people...

Some of you must be following the international news. The TV show VICE recently interviewed some of those intense folks; interesting. Can anyone identify what looks like a consumer Ham handheld strapped to this guy's kit? Photo is here: https://news.vice.com/topic/isis Any comments on...

I'm trying to figure out which powder measure is best for me. Right now all I have is a Lee Challenger single stage press, a Redding scale, and a Lee auto prime. I'm trying to get setup to load 223., I debated on getting a turret press, but decided it would be best to spend my money on...

There is so much great information that is buried in 30 or more page threads. It's impossible sometimes for newbies to catch up. Hopefully all the great information from our members can be posted again.

I have been reading the American thread on tools for survival, & it seems to me that lots of people are being very unrealistic in their prepping. Or maybe it is just that Australia is different & therefore we think differently because our geography is different. I have been told time & time...

I've read a lot of people here talking about using wool blankets for a sleeping system instead of a sleeping bag, I'm just wondering what the reason for that could possibly be. I'd take an army four piece sleeping system over blanket any day. Blankets are less warm, heavier, bigger.

After being inspired by Twiggy's EWLS system. I re-examined my requirements and realized that I have been doing dirt time for 2 and 3 days at a time, and would usually just mix and match my gear for whatever I was planning to do. What I am attempting to make is to create a base pack that would...

Madcow made a great point in another thread (and maybe his point had nothing to do with what I'm writing but...) that got me to thinking. What is the "point" to survival? What are you prepping for? Okay, so one gets the skills aspect down. Fine. One equips themselves with good gear. Nice...

Plan for Setbacks So one of the troubles with living in the North is that it can get really cold up here, for months at a time. This season being one of our weirdest has brought us temps ranging from -38 to +4 Celsius (-36 to +39 Fahrenheit) in the same week! I like storing a little water in...

How many of you have managed to come up with some strange contraption (or normal looking) out of household items that is actually useful for prepping/ hiking/ camping etc E.g. TP Roll cable tidies (just as an example) It would be interesting to see what all you long term preppers have come up...
