  1. Food and water
Been playing around experimenting with this simple product lately. It seems to be pretty easy to prepare and contains a good portion of food. http://www.backpackerspantry.com/ Anyone familiar with simple dehydrated products like this? Cheaper than MREs is one advantage. How about shelf life...

My wife got cancer and then had a heart attack 2 years ago. I've never been much of a cook but since her illness,I've been doing all the cooking and KP duties. Maybe this isn't new to some of y'all, but I just discovered a dehydrated package of chili made by a company called bear creek. It was...

I am thinking about buying a dehydrator and storing the food long term. Has anyone done this and does it hold up well? I have read it does last for about ten years in mylar and buckets. I don't see why it wouldn't. It seems to be a good way to store fruit.
  4. Reviews & Questions For Vendors
I would just like to take a few minutes to review some of the dehydrated and freeze dried foods that I have ordered to try from Harmony House Foods, out of North Carolina. To start, their shipping times are fantastic. My first order was a bit of a fluke at 1 day from placing to receiving...

As always, when I'm in need of sound advice, I turn to you guys (and girls). As per the title, I got me a vacuum sealer. So far I love the thing, it works great. I went with the Zip-Lock brand as it was within my budget and had decent reviews. I plan to use it mostly for dehydrated veggies and...

A few days ago I started reading a new book, it's called "War on the eastern front by James Lucas." War on the eastern front is a collection of personal experiences based on diaries from German soldiers. The majority of books I read are non-fiction. This is because I like to know what real-life...

Say what??? Did Walton's Feed create a new pancake mix flavor? It's what and what mixed together to create a tasty treat that didn't even need syrup to taste sweet and good? I was suffering from a case of the droopy eyes and slept through diner time tonight only to wake up at 11:30PM hungry...

When I first started drying foods, i cranked the dehydrator to get the job done as fast as possible. While I try to preserve as much nutrition as possible, it wasn't until I read a book on raw and living foods and tried low temp dehydrating for my veggies that I really saw the difference. My...

I've been on the road a LOT for work and pleasure (mostly pleasure... YAY!), and haven't been able to get to the market as much for my produce demands. My usual breakfast is a homemade smoothie, serving for other meals when in a hurry. While most places now have smoothie/juice shops, I balked at...

Let me start off first by saying I've been a long time off-and-on lurking procrastinating armchair-survivalist (wow I think that's the lowest commitment possible). I am a Hawaii (Oahu) resident all my life. I convinced myself and the gf I've been living with to start actual preps. We are setting...

I don't have a canner, but I'm thinking it might be handy to have one...however, dehydrating also looks like a good option and I already have a non-electric dehydrator. Before I invest in a canner, I'd like some input on one method vs. the other...if you've done both, what's your preference...
