This seems like a really bad idea to me. If people want you out of your bunker all they have to do is cut off your air supply. Being undwerground doesn't appeal to me anyway. I am claustrophobic to the max degree.

Hello, unexperienced person here... we had a 6x10x6ft high concrete storm shelter buried in our yard this week. it is covered by about 18-20" of dirt. The concrete is almost a foot thick on all sides and roof. It has a large metal door entrance on top and 2 "whirly birds" for air ventilation...

Has anyone built a small underground home two levels high? 600 square feet would be all I need, but it would be nice to have a lower basement level to store food and my hobby, beer, because they will stay fresher, longer for extended periods of time. I presume drainage issues might be an...

i have seen underground buses before but this one is totally buried. i don't know what would keep someone from driving over it, and i don't think the roof could hold much weight. http://www.wltz.com/story/16618542/school-bus-used sorry if it has been posted before

Hey everyone, I'm a total newbie to preparedness but the way things are going I'm starting to prepare for the worst. I've been thinking a lot about bunker building, particularly the amount of air available, and it struck me that you need an awful lot! e.g. in a 1m radius pipe of 4m length, the...

Hello everyone, I was wondering about underground shelters. If you have on I'd like to hear about it, how it was built, how it's stocked, maybe get some info about the various systems employed (electrical, ventilation). I am also very interested in the industry side of it. Who are the...

Dig 2 ponds near each other. Set a water tight fiberglass tank of your size and choosing into a dry pond bed, you will need a dirty water pump for this. Once the tank is set, camo the tank with green plastic leaves and stuff and fill the pond. You can either stash stuff or hunker down in...

Let me begin this by stating that I am not paranoid. I don't think anyone is after me and this is on for SHTF situation. Not a burglar. I downloaded some plans for a safe room. It assumed that the room would only be used in cases of protecting yourself from a burglar until the...

On my way home from the LDS cannery this evening, I called a friend who has like interests in the SHTF realm. We talked about our stocks of supplies accumulated so far and the constant need for MORE MORE MORE. He's on a very limited income and his progress is slow going. I'm slightly better off...

You can buy plastic septic tanks and water tanks relatively cheaply. This got me thinking....If you took a large tank, put it in a trench then poured concrete over the top of it, how do you think that would work for a storm shelter, underground storage location, etc.? I would imagine attaching...

I am looking for some good information on building an undergound shelter. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

I just thought of something looking at a YouTube video of "How to make a shelter" where a guy digs a hole. Places a shipping container in the hole, with drainage. Covers the container with steel I-beams and then covers the whole thing with concrete. Why not do the same thing with an old run...

Hello, I'm new to the Forum but I have browsed and read many of the threads here. Here is my idea of a way to bury a shipping container. Please feel free to criticise or help in any way. We are going to be building a new house soon and I want a storm cellar/bunker under the house accesible...

  17. Disaster Preparedness General Discussion
So apparently I have an extra septic tank on my property, that's ventilated and rather large, and was somehow based on an underground wine cellar that a used car lot made in the 1930's. Weird stuff. But, apparently it's large enough that you can actually get down in it and it stopped being...

So trying to plan out a bunker, one thing I am having trouble getting info on is ventilation. Specifically: how to construct blast valves for tops of vents how big of vent how to filter out bio/chemical when changing filter, what stops toxins on filter coming in?
