Can you believe this?

"A division of the American Library Association voted unanimously Saturday to strip Laura Ingalls Wilder's name from a major children's literature award over concerns about how the author referred to Native Americans and blacks.

The Association for Library Service to Children says the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award will now be known as the Children's Literature Legacy Award.

Wilder, who wrote the children's book series Little House on the Prairie, was the first recipient of the award, which was established in 1954 and intended to honor books published in the U.S. that have had a big impact on children's literature.

It's like something straight out of George Orwell's "1984". Or Stalin's Russia....

How can someone possibly be offended, by one of the most beloved series of books ever published?

The people at ALA must be the most sour bunch of killjoys ever. Running around with perpetual frowns.

"No---little Johnny! We can't let you enjoy that little children's book by Ms. Wilder! After all, our resident SJW thought-police have declared she's supposed to have maybe said something could be construed as possibly negative about Native Americans in it."

These people should just cut to the chase and rename the award:

"The Karl Marx Prize" for literature and the advancement of Socialism.

Done and Done, Nothing to see here.

The Two Worlds

Sometimes I think there are two worlds, in the First World, we work, support our community, raise our kids and live our values. We take responsibility for our actions and seek to improve our lot and that of our posterity. We respect the rule of law and try and live by a moral code.

The Second World is one where we make-up new fantasies and re-name ourselves and the world around us. If someone disagrees with us we throw a tantrum and try to force the adults to notice us and agree with whatever we want/desire. Finally, we find a man in a black dress that tells all of the other people that we are right and they are wrong. The reason given is usually, "Because".

Unfortunately, the second world is not pre-school, but the world of liberalism.

P.S. My kids (9 & 12) attend a private charter school and they have read both Little House on the Prairie and the Courage of Sarah Noble. After reading both books, neither child held any racist or stereotypical views toward American Indians/Native Americans. I know, because we discussed the books while they were reading them and afterwards. (Parenting - I know, weird right?)

Arizona has the 3rd largest Native American population in the United States and our former state, California had the largest, so we see first hand what Native Americans have become and we look to history to see where they came from and learn about both cultures and their interactions together.

Its old hard copy books that will keep history. We are on a slow path to book burning, and makeing it look like it is progress. Our brown shirt youth will be cheering our Fahrenheit 451 bon fires as the brainwashing is complete. I hope some digital files in original context can be hidden and saved.

I have a full set of encyclopedias from 1936. I remember that is what I had to use in 70s for school, and thought it outdated then as it wasn't relevant to current events.

I break them out every few years and look at maps and such, at one time I thought of selling them. I need to put them in a controlled storage.

Yes, no doubt. When I saw this article, I was thinking that this kind of thing is one of the early steps to full-on book burning. I'm currently trying to decide which book I should memorize for when I join the "Book People".

I have a full set of encyclopedia Britannica from 1960 that I got from freecycle.org. It's a treasure.

Doesn't fit the agenda

I'm also wondering how much Laura Ingalls Wilder's Libertarian views had a hand, in the decision by the ALA's Social Justice Warrior squad, to get this bit of Cultural Marxism accomplished.

After all--her constant them in the books of independence, individual initiative, pioneer spirit, etc.; doesn't jibe with the Leftist agenda of encouraging a culture of dependence and helplessness in the new generation.
