Got my FAL today,,,,,,, needless to say I'am impressed.

What really got to me - I'am on a 3 day camping trip on the river, I call my wife to check in, and she tells me my rifle has arrived, but the dealer is closed for the day and will be out of town tomorrow. At this point and time I feel like throwing the cell phone in the river - This is Tuesday.

Get home Thursday, get a shower, drive over to the gun store, and he is closed for lunch. Ok, at this point I feel like screaming at the door, like its actually going to do any good.

Drive to the camp, check on things, use the rest room, and drive back to the dealer. This time he is open,,,, and he has my rifle.

LOL. I loved the video....

A good choice. I'll keep my PTRs though. Enjoy Kev.

(P.S. All of them eat steel cased just fine. Does that make my PTR more reliable than your DSA? hehehe)

So the big advantage here is that you can run hunting ammo .308 in an assault style (shorter length) weapon?

That is what I plan on doing. Once my FAL is sighted in, its going to be my primary hunting rifle

I'am going to wal-mart tomorrow and picking up some remington 308 ammo.

Its a DS Arms SA-58 with 16 inch barrel + flash suppressor.

I ordered an 18 inch barrel. But I guess there was some confusion, and what I actually ended up with was a 16 inch barrel plus the flash suppressor.

The overall length is fine with a 16 inch barrel, so I'am no going to complain.

Congrats. Yours looks alot like the one I used to have, other than the 16in bbl. (Mine was 18in)

The bipods are nice, but I dumped mine to save a little on weight.

Be lookin fwd to your range report.

It should work fine for this application, once you find a decent load that your rifle likes. My old DSA FAL shot WIN 150gr Silvertips quite well.

Outstanding bullet for whitetails IMO

Good choice, Kev. Gotta love a FAL! I never tire of handling mine. Gotta do it at least once a week.

When you get around to it, get an ARMS mount that replaces the dust cover. Millett DMS is a great optic that will work well for any normal hunting distance. Bipods are a very good choice for an MBR. Having that stable position can make or break your shooting.

-Put a strip of electrical tape to the rear outside your ejection port. It will prevent brass scarring and save the finish from flaking.

-Same thing with the forend where your bipod feet lock down. Keeps them a little quieter as well.

Congrats, buddy.

We have had FAL's for a long time, we have shot thousands of rounds through our guns, we have never had a issue with the platform. We have tested our FAL's with lots of different ammo, and there was at one time lots of "$hit" ammo out there. Most issues I have seen from other peoples FAL's comes from either, Ignorance, ammo or Mags.

You will love your FAL, you would be hard pressed to find a battle rifle, that is more reliable. 20 years ago I was looking for a 308 battle rifle, I had to beg, borrow, and almost steal, the 308 auto battle rifles I wanted to try out!, so I could make a informed choice, a choice I didn't take lightly, after all, this would be used in the defense of my family and money wasn't an issue. The FAL felt the best for me, so thats what I got. Now to make most of you cry, at the time I bought the FAL and 7000 quality rounds for under $1000.00.

Grats kev, just dont expect it to be as accurate as a 'bolty. Make sure your charging handle rod is steel, not alluminum.

No doubt DSA makes a great FAL. I've got the same rifle as you do, but with a folding stock.

Here's a DSA SA58 SBR I recently bought. It's got an 11" barrel. Can hardly wait to outfit it into my new HD rifle.
