I would like to see a Wiki function linked to the Survivalist Boards where we can help to create articles on survival related topics like Bug Out Bags, Shelf Life for food, Survival Kits, Different kinds of threats, Checklists, Water and water purification etc. There are a lot of threads that’s about basically the same subjects, why not incorporate all knowledge into a Wiki like function on the boards? It would also make the knowledge on he boards much easier to find.

I understand that it could be a big project to create such a function, but I for once would love to be able to put pieces into a bigger puzzle together with the rest of the members even if it takes some time to get there.

It is a good idea and I imagine would be a big undertaking. However in the meantime it would be helpful by ALL members if they would add 'tags' when submitting a thread.

That would make it easier for folks to research topics utilizing the 'Search' function.

P.S. I added some tags for ya

Default Thinking of adding a wiki

Ok - serious discussion here, do we need a wiki?

This is something that I have wanted to add for a long time.

If a wiki was added, who would be willing to contribute "something". Even if its just a picture that you took, or help out with an article,,, how many people would be willing to help?

i think its a great idea
e.g. an article on shotguns- you could just direct people to the article rather than hashing out the whole topic again.

Donīt think there would be much information it it that isnīt be anywhere else on the web, but I guess itīs not a bad idea to collect it all in one place. Yeah Iīd say go for it.

Great idea Kev.

If you remember, way back last year I suggested we do something similar. Consolidate this treasure trove of information into a comprehensive and easy-to-use directory of survival terms, survival methods, best survival practices, etc.

I volunteer to help as an editor and writer in this effort.

I'm not computer savvy and to be truthful I don't know exactly what a wiki is. I'm assuming from the comments that it's something like an index or a storage place where articles, files and such could be kept. If that is so, I'm all for it. I love this group and appreciate all I've learned here so please don't take this as a complaint - more an aggravation but it's hard to search with as many messages as come through this group. Sometimes I'll want to do something and I'll remember I read a message about it some time ago. I'll try to search but I'll say 5 out of 100 searches I'm successful. I've learned to email a link to myself if I read something I might need later on. I would love to have a place to go read articles, suggestions, tips, recipes, etc.. But, if we don't get a wiki, I'll still love SurvivalistBoards.

Sherrie, what Kev is suggesting is something similar to Wikipedia.

I'm all for the creation of a SurvivalistBoards wiki. There is a lot of fragmented information over the internet, and I think a wiki would be a wonderful resource, especially for new survivalists. Instead of people asking the same questions and getting the same answers over and over again, these people can be directed to the wiki - saving active users time and acting as an invaluable pool of information for the whole community. Furthermore, many ideas can be integrated into the one wiki article, allowing that much more information to be available at your fingertips.

I think it's a great idea & I'd be willing to help, too.

Just be prepared to defend it though. The trolls that run around here from time to time would have a hay day with something like that!

I like the idea! I would be willing to contribute with what I can. This site is where a survivalist wiki should be located.
