The picture isn't that clear I know, but the lettuce is still growing and extremely green even though we had hard frosts every night now for the last month, 2 snowstorms, and a couple of days of -20 C.

Were they labeled as GMO? Did he buy plants or seeds? I'm not aware of any GMO seeds that are available on the seed racks or from mail order seed nurseries that the average gardener orders from.

I understood GMO varieties are still limited to commercial agribuisness, mainly monocrop varieties like corn, etc.

I'd like to know how your friend knows those lettuce plants are GMO.

Unless he works for one of the few bodies developing GMO lettuce, I can't imagine how he would have gotten ahold of any, since it's not available for sale anywhere. And even if he did work for one, he's probably violating all kinds of contracts and laws by taking it home from the lab.

Is it possible that you or he are confusing GMO with hybrids? They're not the same thing.
