Default Russian Military in Syria

Advertise Here

Hello all:

I would like to get some more perspectives on what the impact and implications to the U.S. will be from the massive Military Buildup of Russian Troops in Syria to fight ISIS; and, potentially to the death (i.e. not like our Sorties that fly 25 sorties a day and don't drop any bombs, ~LOL~).

It is my understanding that this port is, for the Russians their ONLY warm-water port that allows them unfettered access into the open seas.

In other words, it's a "do-or-die" thing for them.

My questions are these:

what will be the outcome?
What does it mean for the U.S.
How great is the potential for the conflict to grow?
etc.

I thought that the Russians had got Sevastopol back? So that's one warm-water port.

What will be the outcome? Obama and Cameron will realise that there are worse things than working with people you dislike. This all ties in with Merckel's invitation to 1,000,000 Muslims to come and live in Germany. The impact of that will be more young men being sent off to fight tribal maniacs with sandals and AK's, in hot places, so we don't have to fight them in our own countries. It's called 'delaying the inevitable'.

The U.S. doesn't matter anymore on the world stage, especially in areas of military conflict, so it doesn't mean anything for us.
Have at it Russia! Get you some!!!

In the Cold War, we took the position that "the devil we knew was better than the devil we didn't know" towards dictators. This kept the peace and kept the world stable except in a few places here or there. GW Bush broke that doctrine by invading Iraq, even though his father warned him that we would have to keep troops there for at least 20 years until they established a stable government like what happened in Germany and Japan after WWII. Well Obama comes along and adds to the problem by pulling out too soon.

Now, Russia knowing this doctrine is propping up the Assad regime since he and his father kept the peace since the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. Yes they should have a democratic government. However, they really weren't ready for it, nor most Muslim countries. They only understand power over centuries of having sultans and dictators. Obama, being a socialist, has an unrealistic view of the world. He also doesn't believe America was different and special, and we had time and an ocean to protect us, so our system of government "of the people, by the people" would grow and prosper under freedom, capitalism, and with a strong Christian influence. He has a different world view than most Americans as his church in Chicago taught him under Rev. Wright. It is very wrong and flawed and has contributed to the world falling apart. He also from his early childhood has a strong Islamic influence.

I think Russia is on the right side this time.

Many reasons here. I don't think that seaport is main.
Russians think that Assad is honest ally, and its already enough reason.
Also ISIS sell cheap oil, and they can be threat to other allies. And, of course, Russians hate them too.

I doubt that serious losses acceptable here.
Russia wants war in sky only when Syria and Iran do dirty work.

Assad is elected and secular President. You can think that this election was corrupted, but at least its something similar to democracy. Feel differences with overlords in Saudi Arabia or Jordan and some other muslim states, that Obama doesn't criticise. And, of course, this 100% better then state that religion fanatics can build.

Default Lots of Good Perspective

Thanks for all the answers here. It looks like Russia is definitely in the right i.e. not invading a sovereign nation who never asked us to be there and that The Bush and Current Administrations are totally contradictory to each other, which really compounds the situation.

Not only that but it seems that two different factions are arriving within the Pentagon itself: those who are informing the Syrians of the "Moderate" Rebels (ISIS?) locations and whereabouts and those who are supporting these Rebels...

All in all sounds like a giant Mess to me!!
