I am from Slovakia, and would like to ask some Austrian about food and quality of those products.. As here - in our country, it SUCKS and is very bad quality, I mean - you buy "meat" which is not even real meat, because it's just some worst quality meat every EU country would refuse to sell. Here (hypermarkets) they sell it at sometimes even higher price than in the West. (We have very very low payouts anyway, 50% of people earn less than 500eur). I would say over 95% pruducts has this rule.

Anyway - My question is, where should I seek good quality products?
First of all - some meat, then canned goods (tuna, meat anything for SHTF - no cooking required cans). Idealy chicken, turkey mean..
Then if possible, where do you good good quality shoes and clothes and so on? For winter. Does not need to be cheapest, but simply good quality. (I'm willing to invest in good), just not $1k shoes :D Simply, good for winter as well as for SHTF situations..

I shop in Hainburg an der Donau so far.. There is SPAR and some other shops. btw, I forgot to add - some allergic-friendly shops? (grocery) - lactosefrei and so on, wheatfrei or so.. would be awesome - especially some sweets

Btw, is it difficult to drive a car in Wien ?

Not in Austria, but I think that declining food quality is a worldwide problem as China expands its role as the world's low price, low quality supplier. A couple of years ago I went to an Aldi's here in the United States - a German owned supermarket - and a large percentage of the prepackged products were made in China. Almost 25 years ago now I went to an Aldi's in Europe, and this was not true then. I don't know about what the situation is there today.

Here in America our supermarkets are arranged so that the fresh products are on the "edge", with the checkout lines along the front of the store, fruits/vegetables/baked goods usually lining the right side wall, meat and fish along the back wall, and dairy products along the left side wall. The center aisles are usually full of prepackaged goods, dry staples (flour, sugar, salt, spices), and other products (like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and so on).

Increasingly, it is becoming important to shop the "edges" of the supermarket here...but it sounds as if you are seeing poor quality products there as well.

We have farmers markets where you can buy directly from the producers - do you have such things there?
