Default mail in rebate fool me once

Advertise Here

Got burned last year on a couple cases of online ammo..followed all the direction..waited...waited..checked and it was a third party that handled it,,gave up.

Tried again at Rural King this year with a different ammo..same song...new verse..shame on me...never again.

I don't do rebates. If they do give you anything back, they spam the crap out of your email and sell it to everyone to cover the cost of their crappy rebate.

Took about 5 or 6 months but I FINALLY got my rebate back from a can of Federal ammo I bought at PSA. It was loaded on an debit type card that could not be used to get cash & would expire about 90 days after I got it.

Learn about the rebate scam business:

https://www.cpapracticeadvisor.com/h...in-rebate-scam

Product makers hire rebate companies based on their rate of lack of redemption by consumers.

The article spells this out.

What the articles misses is is just as bad. These rabete companies don't get much money for running the rebate. They basically get paid on the degree of rebate failure by the consumers. They sweeten the pot to the manufacturer by offering to sell them buyer metrics they obtain for a low additional fee. Then they turn around and sell that same info various info gathering outfits.

That money you try to save is aggressive fought against any way that avoids a fraud charge against them and is selling your personal residence and shopping data to anyone that will pay for it.

I don't buy squat that has a rebate.

I got screwed 3 years ago on Remington buckshot ammo. Suppose to get 40 plus back and never got it. I can find good enough deals on ammo to making taking the chance in rebates not worth it.

The only company I deal with their rebates is menards (not for ammo but in general).

I got straight cash back (a check, anyway) on a Remington pistol a few years back...but I despise rebates in general. Take the price off the top instead of hoping half of us are too lazy to send it in.

I don't usually do rebates, but, my LGS did it for me when I bought my M&P Shield .40/9mm through them and I got my check in the mail about 4 months later. I was pleasantly surprised.

I can only recall not getting one rebate, firearms wise.

I've been lucky with Federal ... One can find great deals way under normal prices with rebates.

Gotta follow the directions very carefully. That's part of the trick.

I don't generally buy BECAUSE of a rebate. Like everyone else, I don't expect to get it and it's a hassle.

However, if I buy something that has a rebate, it's worth a stamp and 5 minutes to send it in. I provide minimal information. The exception is I will not send in my original receipt if I may need it for a warranty later.

Yeah, I agree with most. They are a marketing scam in general where there's hope that many will not complete or send it in or it will get "lost." I would rather have $25 off versus $50 mail in rebate... Redemption odds are about 50/50 in my experience.

I got screwed on a AAC rebate ( credit really) on a suppressor. Gun Store sat on the form ( and my tax money) for 8 months blaming ATF, then lost my trust, and finally sent it in 9 months late. AAC said no problem, send us the bar code when it transfers, they will go by the date on the receipt. Suppressor transfers 6 weeks after rebate expires, and AAC won’t honor their email as it conflicts with the written rules. Had to pay a dealer $200 for the adaptors vs getting them for free from AAC.

Won’t ever buy another AAC suppressor for sure.

Discovered ATF’s customer service beat the hell out of the LGS. LGS blamed ATF and Obama until they finally admitted they never sent my $200 in, and latter admitted they had the original form

Hate *rebates* cuz of the information selling/spam
Learned the hard way when what I needed wasn't at Lowe's or Home Depot, which give military discounts, so I bought it at Menard's and sent in the card for the rebate. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Got a check and the bank put a 10-day hold on it because they had had a bunch of problems with the rebate checks.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Nope, I don't do rebates, the few that I've done in the past I've mostly gotten but received them several months later. I'd rather just wait to buy when it goes on sale and maybe pay a few more dollars

you must not be doing it right.

did you check their website to make sure they received it? if so it shows when it was sent. if you didn't get it, you can re-file with them.

I've never missed a single menards rebate, and I do probably a dozen a year.

I do rebates all the time. always get them, sooner or later. done the Ammo ones a few times, no issues at all.

nearly all the rebates have a website you can go to and track them.

FWIW, rebates are so easy now it's not even funny.

Anyone remember the days of cutting off UPC's, peeling impossible labels, or peeling the foil seals off of oil bottles to send in and having the post office reject the oily envelope?

I do...

I don't play the rebate game! I'll pay a fair price when provided but never play that game.
I have a library BIL who loves rebates, has his own tracking system and everything. He has WAY too much time on his hands... Then again I'm yet to see a college prof actually work.

One of my biggest problems with the Menards rebates is you just get in store credit, not a check or even a debit card. So to use it I have to drive all the way across town & try to find something I want where the rebate makes it either close to free or at least enough off to make it worthwhile, especially since they won't let you use the rebate vouchers on sale items, clearance items etc. & often times it's cheaper to NOT use the rebate voucher & just use pay the sale price. Some years ago I had gone there to get my rebate voucher & was wandering around the store to see what wasn't on sale that I might want to get with it. It was a decent sized voucher too -$100. I just happened to bump into one of my friends & his wife who were getting a bunch of stuff. I asked him if he wanted to save $50? He handed me $50, I gave him the voucher & that was about the best experience I've had with Menards rebates.

I only mess with a rebate if it is over $50.... and certainly over $100.

The last rebate I did was Winchester for $100 and got my check within 4 weeks.
