IMO, he's putting his money where his mouth is to a much larger degree than most mere political ploys. Even if he's also hoping to get some political mileage (no crime there), I'm getting the impression this is sincere, especially since I fully agree that a major financial calamity is inevitable.

I think they were the first major retailer to accept bit coin as a payment choice. Byrne is an outside of the box thinker, its one of the few companies I don't mind doing business with, they don't seem to get heavily involved in political correctness unlike Amazon, eBay, etc...we remodeled our master bath 4 years ago using goods bought on Overstock, sinks, faucets, shower valve, lights, towel bars and mirrors, way less expensive than Home Depot for the same exact items, we saved hundreds of dollars...

guess the problem with the "economic collapse" predictions is that they just never happen.
2007-8, the 'great recession' and did the economy collapse? no.
what many fail to understand is that the rich are going to do whatever it takes to keep the economy going. not always the way they would prefer, but they are not going to let it 'collapse'.
they are addicted to money. all they want is to accumulate more of it. it's an obsession not too dissimilar to a gambling addiction. but in this case, the rich run the games, not the other way around for gamblers.
so when things get a little out of control and they feel threatened, they let a little money 'trickle down', just enough to keep the status quo and keep themselves on top. just enough to keep the hope alive for the rest of us but not enough to stop the decline of the middle class nor the expansion of the lower class.
rest assured that there will not be anything close to an 'economic collapse' anytime during the next few generations. things will get worse financially for most people for sure. and, eventually, there may be the uprising by the disenfranchised and desperate but that will be a long time coming. the rich know how to play the game far too well to allow that to happen without a lot of advanced warning.

Thing is... "life" is not perfectly controllable.

And your "assurances" are worth diddily.
Might, might not.

Byrne is pro liberty, free market and sound decentralized currency.

Seems like a intelligent guy, though tight with Warren Buffet.

Buffet plays on both sides of the fence...to think otherwise is naive...he says something on one side of the fence and then says and does something else on the other...its all just a game these gazillionares play...

I understand preparing for a natural disaster, but the fact that some people here expect a Madmax scenario where we're blown back to the 10th century is laughable.

This has nothing to with mormons, utah etc.

Overstock.com was the most abused stock on the stock exchange by the wall street and the banksters almost bankrupted them. The founder is in war with the wall street since then.

Just google "naked short selling overstock.com" or read this: http://www.overstock.com/naked-short-selling.html

No wonder he does not trust the wall street or our government who did nothing to help them and never prosecuted the gangers from the wall street.

I wonder if/when they think everything is good they'll sell their "overstock" of Mountain House foods and bags of rice on their website.

It is one of those companies the Mormons got ahold of. They advertise heavily on Glen Beck's network.

While I don't subscribe to Mormon mythology at all, they definitely have their stuff together when it comes to preparedness. I'm not too crazy about Beck these days either but I'll give it to him: he saw all of this ISIS stuff coming years ago.
