You would be wrong. They inspect less than 2 percent of all imports with the emphasis on seafood and meats first and fruits next. Rice would be way down the list.

Even so, I doubt seriously it's a true story. Even if someone has made the tooling to make fake rice it would likely be for making advertising etc. It probably would be designed for high volume and, in any case, would cost more to run than real rice.

Seems like not a very profitable thing to fake.

Default Plastic Rice: Problem or Myth?

some of us have heard buzz about fake/plastic rice being added to real rice or sold in its place, such as this article

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-38391998

********ia has confiscated 2.5 tonnes of "plastic rice" smuggled into the country by unscrupulous businessmen, the customs service says.

Lagos customs chief Haruna Mamudu said the fake rice was intended to be sold in markets during the festive season.

He said the rice was very sticky after it was boiled and "only God knows what would have happened" if people ate it.

It is not clear where the seized sacks came from but rice made from plastic pellets was found in China last year.***

BBC however says the 'plastic rice' tales are fake news

http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-40484135

"The story had reached social media in Africa by 2016 when *****ian customs authorities confiscated 2.5 tonnes of rice. Customs officials initially claimed that the rice was plastic - and were later forced to backtrack when the country's health minister said there was no evidence for the claims. Tests showed that the rice did however contain a high level of bacteria, *****ia's National Agency For Food and Drugs said."

whew

"Despite little evidence that it's a widespread problem, rumours of "plastic" rice being sold in Africa and elsewhere persist on social media - driven in particular by viral videos which show bouncing rice balls.

The rumours spread over the last few weeks in Senegal, The Gambia and Ghana - and reached such a pitch that the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority decided to carry out an investigation.

They invited consumers and traders to submit samples of any rice brands they suspected of being made of plastic - and eventually concluded that there was no plastic rice being sold on the Ghanaian market."

yay
so has anyone heard of verified accounts of plastic rice?

edit--sorry, didn't see the existing thread, my bad

https://factcheck.afp.com/no-singapo...ce-its-shelves

***Multiple Facebook posts claim Singaporean supermarket chain FairPrice agreed to withdraw packets of its own brand jasmine fragrant rice from the shelves after confirming they contained plastic. The claim is false; the supermarket has said that the rice had passed food safety checks; the jasmine rice mentioned in the misleading posts is still available on the FairPrice website; Singapore’s food agency said it has not found fake rice in the city state.***
