California could expand use of gun violence restraining orders under bill sent to governor
By Patrick McGreevyStaff Writer
5-7 minutes

California teachers, school administrators and employers could ask the courts to take guns away from people they see as a danger to themselves or the public under a major expansion of the state’s “red flag” law approved by the Legislature on Monday and sent to Gov. Gavin Newsom.

In response to a string of mass shootings, the governor has said he is interested in expanding the state’s gun restraining order law, which for the last four years has allowed family members and law enforcement officers to ask courts to seize firearms from people deemed a public risk. Legislators have offered half a dozen proposals this year to broaden the law’s reach.

On Monday, t he state Assembly gave final approval to a measure that would allow employers, co-workers and high school and college teachers and administrators to petition the courts to remove guns from employees and students.

It's all just a back door gun confiscation. This doesn't really surprise me. What really irks me though is how many republicans are going along with this crap.

I'm not sure there is a good solution for confiscatory laws. CA is likely to have a policy of mandatory destruction. If you win in court, you get back the value you lost, but not your possessions. A direct violation of the 2nd.

Republicans are just the other side of the same UNIParty coin. Same corruption, different name.

Can you see where this is going? People blackmailing one another: "I'm gonna report to the authorities you are a threat if you don't do xyz for me." Or, something like that.

I wonder if the Salem Witchcraft mass hysteria began in a similar manner.

When, not if, JBT's are executed carrying out these unlawful orders I will have not a microscopic spec of sympathy for them.

Decent, hard working Americans need to leave California, then let's see if the state can support itself on the backs of big tech and Hollywood alone.

The problem with that is each instance stands on its own, and everyone will justify it "oh he did xx" or they won't agree with his politic...and that will be that. Just as they have always done.

The civil suits from this will be interesting. This is a lawyer’s dream.

Eventually this suit will hit the 9th Circuit and will works it’s way to SCOTUS. Now will they hear it?

Even if they do leave, they are being replaced/exceeded at an exponential rate.

A fair assessment is that California is actively protecting illegal aliens from being deported, to sandbag the census numbers for the resulting increase in congressional seats and votes within the electoral college.

There isn't a Republican party in California, save the more rural areas (maybe). They've been co-opted by liberal interests.

Red Flag laws were always meant as back door confiscations, and never meant to protect anyone but government officials from being ousted from office.

wont be long before a "mean look" is used to take away someone's rights.

just a law designed to disarm the population in the name of "safety".

That's basically what I've been saying. They won't storm 1K's of houses at a time, or even dozens 5 days a week. They will have 1 or 2 a year, at least to start (now) especially in already anti-gun states & make sure the MSM paints them as "kooks" with an "arsenal" of 5 guns & 1,000 rounds of ammo! Then once they have enough of the American public crying out to ban all guns, they will have a green light to do more. By then they'll have so many gun owners in prison/psych wards or their guns seized, that, as the Borg say, resistance is futile.

If the illegal criminal faucet was also shut off, it would.
