I think there's a common theological misconception people have, in this thread and elsewhere. The sentiment of "any heaven without X is not MY heaven" we've both heard I'm sure often before.

But that's completely irrelevant. The modern idea of "heaven is just a Star Trek Holodeck where all my fantasies play out" is not really an idea the Bible supports.

Another thing people naturally tend to imagine but that is likely not the case is that we will all have the same desires, needs, wants, and personality we have now. For one thing, to be changed into an incorruptible, non-fleshly body precludes all the parts of being associated with chemical brain processes. We will be changed, the bible says. People underestimate, I suspect, how much that change will do to us. WE must be fundamentally changed, else how would the assurance that there will be no tears in heaven be true? If you could both remember and feel loss and regret, all of us will have family in Hell. But then there would be sadness. So if that's no longer going to be possible for us, what else may also be different? It is hard to know for certain.

Now granted most descriptions of what heaven will be like, specifically, are contained in Revelation, a highly figurative book. But I think we ought to be careful thinking that heaven is just going to be whatever we want it to be. That's a very human idea.

Well, to be fair. That is the only kind of ideas we can have.

The Bible is full of God's ideas, and since we are made in his image, we are able to understand some of them, and hold them in our mind. But yes, it is only to be expected that our ideas will be, sometimes, only human.

I suspect no pets as heaven is a temporary abode. The kingdom will be established on earth when Y'shua returns.

IMO, everything with a living soul will be together...with the exception of those human souls that are not found in the Book of Life.

Aside from humans...for those who wonder what has a living soul...

Genesis 1:30 And to every wild animal, bird in the air and creature crawling on the earth, in which there is a living soul, I am giving as food every kind of green plant.” And that is how it was.

May it please the Court.... Dogs may or may not go to Heaven, but one could make a case for them with stories like this:

Stray dogs ‘save’ baby girl dumped in drain in Haryana

This could've been very ugly (like the kid-in-the-gorilla-pen story from couple years ago); instead it has a happy ending, and it reinforces what a good friend of mine is fond of saying: "Dogs were made for us; and us, for them." I rest my case. :-)

"Any place that's too high-falutin for Rip is too fancy for me." -- Old Man walking with his dog, on the road, in The Twilight Zone, "The Hunt" (episode 84, 1962).

I am not going to go dig out my good book to look up the relevant scripture, nor do any of us truly know what heaven has in store, but it seems to me that Bible says the Lord put all the animals onto this Earth for our use. Whether that be a dog to pet, a cow to eat, or a sheep to make wool from. While those animals do have a mind, I don't recall them having a spirit or a soul and I am pretty sure those are part of the journey to heaven. Also pretty sure "belief" is the one major criteria scripture puts on us to ascend on that glorious day. I love my dogs but none of them seem to have accepted Jesus as their Lord & Savior.

I sure hope so, cause I plan on doing some great bird hunting with all my dogs when we are all reunited in the clouds. (like the Twilight Zone episode with the old coon hunter and his hound)

Will it be the coon dog or your memory and importance of him.

Would you be allowed to kill birds with soul?

Do the animals we kill and make trophies out of them go to Heaven?

I appreciate all your sentiments but I think the key thing many overlook is that according to the bible, assuming that's the heaven we're all talking about, in the judgement we are all fundamentally changed in ways that are not completely clear. but we know that at minimum our desires and emotions will be different, or else it would not be logically possible for some of the things said about heaven to be true (there's no evil there, there's no sadness, though we have memory). Given that, it would be really hard to say what heaven will really be like. I think it's easy to try to compare it to the present world with things we understand. But it will probably be so dissimilar that it's impossible to even compare the two.
