Yeah, the whole "you can't eat silver" crowd will be here shortly I'm sure. Like with so many things, I'm able to prep more than just one thing & not at the cost of all others.

Pre 65, not pre 64. Well done otherwise particularly the final comment about the collective.

Liked the visual referencing 2,000 years, if you wanted to go longer (not necessary, but might make a good second video.) You could go into what that bought (you referenced it a little). National average price of a gal of gas from 1964 to now is worth looking at too.

Also Kennedy 1/2's were 40% silver '65-'70. There are Ike 1/2's in 40% but they were usually proofs & not put into circulation, but it's possible to get luck & find one. They also make current style 1/4's in 90% silver.

Ike 1/2ís? You mean dollars.

US Halves, quarters and dimes have been made in 90% silver since 1992.

yeah, screwed that one up. I could have gone on forever really. I've also been learning a lot about silver coins here in Europe, some very interesting stuff.
The denarius, about 3gr of silver, was the payment for the roman legionaire. Kind of like an official minimum wage but there were many officers that made double triple than that or more. Then again you also had mercenaries that fought for whatever loot they could get and werent hired in paper with an actual salary.
Someone mentioned that today, a soldier gets paid a lot more than that, a US soldier or cop sure does. But thats a very "Americanized" view. According to worldbank.org, half the world lives on under 5 bucks a day... not to far from that denarius coin. Andif you look at Venezuela, a soldier there makes less than that PER MONTH. Sure, Venezuela is a complete craphole but my point still is, you cant just compared the value of silver comparing Romans to US troop salaries.
Its very interestesting, also how empires, both the Roman and British, they both debased their currency as their empires collapsed. I'd like to do a video about silver in different countries, when it was last used and how that reflected with its hisotry.

Yeah. I guess I had the 1/2 on my brain when the Ike popped into my head. Also then only using half my brain.

You got a link to the '92 & later 90% dimes & halfs? I haven't seen silver dimes or half's other than proofs & stuff.

Yeah, you pay way more for those than regular 90% silver. Those statehood silver quarters are often a bit less than old 90% but they are still new & shiny but you aren't paying with anywhere near the mark-up of proofs.
