If you're going to talk carbines, you might want to consider getting a Ruger PC-9 or PC-4. Both of the PC carbines can be set up to use Glock pistol magazines and ammo. If she uses a Glock 17 or like a Glock in .40 caliber that combination of pistol and carbine using the same ammo and magazines would be a great thing for you and her. Recoil is light with the carbines. You can get extended magazines, like 32 or 33 rounders, to use in the carbines. They're easy to maneuver with and lighter in weight than most rifles. She'll love one if she shoots and handles one.

if you are hunting deer size game and down or even smaller black bears,i cant imagine a better rifle than a older Remington model 7 in 243.

mine is blued steel and walnut and very nice to look at as well as shoot. everybody that has ever shot it just loves it. even my son who is 6'4". he shot his first deer with it when he was 8.

She got a 243, got her wish list filled for $430 plus the government's mandatory penalties for buying things.

She is very happy to have it, now to start her shooting it. Plus, she got her wood stock and blue barrel with a scope. Mossberg Patriot Youth Model in .243

My wife loves her Winchester XPR in .243 Winchester.

And they sure are purty in wood! And when they were running rebates, I got $100 off and a smokin good deal.

Out of the box, this is the most accurate hunting rifle I have ever purchased.

Not a Mossy fan, and a crappy website to boot. Got a barrel length @22" - no twist rate - can be important for picking bullet weights.

You should look into barrel breaking in procedures. I like Shooter's Choice for a cleaning solvent and JB's Bore Paste.

That should do fine for her out to that 384 yard limit.

Next up..... A range report.. Try a few different loads out and see what your rifle likes best. Have good results vs deer with 95gr Hornady sst.
