OP: I am/was in the same boat as you. no service available, none through phone line, dial up was 2.4k and completely worthless. no cable, no fiber, nothing. I'm on hughesnet now, 80g plan gets me through the month (thanks to my job perk).

BUT....the other option I was doing is Verizon unlimited data plan on a Verizon smart phone.

now, it will slow if you use internet data, but NOT if you use cellular data. the key is to tether with the phone using software that keeps it on cellular data. PDANet is one such software and uses a FoxFi key. one time purchase is like $12 or something...I've been using that setup since the blackberry days.

i'll let you do the internet searches for all the details, (phone ap, computer ap, purchase the key, etc.) but IF you have a 2 bar phone signal, you can tether to a laptop or desktop til your hearts content-full speed-no cap. very useful for home office, but not super efficient for a home network. there you'll need to get a little more creative.
