I just hope it doesn't end up like the Left Behind series. About 8 books in, I finally got frustrated and quit.

That said, I LOVED this series and I would read a dirty napkin if A.A. wrote something on it.

Book 1 was enjoyable but slow. The next 3 have been slower still. Think I've had enough as AA seems to just be turning out fewer pages to meet a house note.

All 4 of his books are just great. Great characters, plausible story lines, well written. The only thing that makes me mad is that I've already read them and can't enjoy them for the first time anymore.
Every soldier and EVERY DHS and FEMA person should read this series, IMHO.

He once asked how many of them should he write, I said as many as it takes to tell the story.

Speaking of, he just hit twitter about #6 being done - he did NOT say it was ready to release, or even in editing yet.

Hi guys,

I'm about 90% thru Going Home.

Scariest part of the story, in my opinion

spoiler alert: except for those of u who have read it...
Code:
...the hussein soetoro (alias obama) directed radio
broadcast declaring Martial Law, property confiscations,
and elimination of all freedoms,
is right in line with Cass Sunstein Stalinism.

This realistic scenario would deliver you and I straight into
Communist north Korea style Full-Communist slavery.

Well, i'm nearing the end of the book, so what's next? We gotta
display pictures of The Dear Leader,
hussein soetoro soebarkah (obama),
on the walls of every room in every building?

Want to know what all is in his pack?
Here is a great discussion on Bugout bags and he will be going over all of the gear in his as well.

Oh yeah, this ^^^^ thread was started to get people to discussing what everyone feels is important to carry, but he will also be picking one post as a winner of a solar charging panel for small handheld devices.

Default Anyone read "Going Home" by A. American from his survivalist series?

Curious to know your thoughts.
Is it a credible story line?
Is it good writing?

Thanks!

They are great stories.. But they are stories. You won't walk away from reading the series feeling the need to wear a tinfoil hat. No aliens or death rays. The writing is good.

Good story line and the writing is pretty good. You may have to be somewhat forgiving for the occasional spelling/grammatical errors.

I really enjoyed them and would recommend the series.

As someone very new to prepping and an avid reader, this book really struck home for me! I am currently reading Surviving Home and it's just as good (if not better)!

I liked the series. I am probably 20% done with Avenging Home now. I like how while they are geared up they still have to use their heads to work through the places that they didn't foresee or just couldn't afford. More realistic than a lot of books.

Just finished reading all nine of the series. They are/were great. When will the next one #10 come out? You can't just leave us hanging. How about the Charlie Requiem series? They are great also.

I just finished Avenging Home #7 and look forward to not only the continuing saga but the tips on what to how to why to do things in such a possible future.

As a gun person (more a shooter than a gun person) I like the way he keeps the types and use of weapons realistic in as much as a fiction can.

Only gun mistake I noticed (I was not scrutinizing but) in #6 he stated DHS using the military Sigs the P229 Navy and the P226.
There is no P229 Navy
There is a P226 Navy but that is a 9MM SEAL sidearm with a 1913 rail and nothing like the P226 and P229 DAK (Double action only) 40cal pistols with Sig rails (different than the 1913 Pic rail) DHS ordered and use when it was formed

That is certainly trivial but as a Sig owner (primarily) it was a funny aw ha finally slipped up moment.

I have read different SHTF scenario books. Most are just too far from possible.

This series is IMO the only one truly relevant in that it can be read as a study of possibility and a teaching and relevance source even if a catastrophic event of this type is highly unlikely.
The premise for why the end happened is highly unlikely but that is a small part of the real interest in day to day things that make you feel this is a look into the possible EOTWAWKI.

I will keep reading this hoping #8 does not stray into the crazy way other books have portrayed the international possibilities. Keeping it close, small and intimate was what made the "Home" series so good.
I hope it stays home

OK, technically there is a P229 Navy.
A very small batch of M11A-1 were made in 2016 with a blue anodized frame that Sig Called the M11A-1 Navy
(The M11A-1 is a p229 with a SAS rail-less frame).
This was long after the book referenced P229NAVY for DHS which did not exist and as mentioned above the P229s DHS bought were DAK models in 40 S&W.
All M11A-1s are 9MM.

Just clarifying my above statement and reiterating this oh so minor SNAFU in the book that was likely a typo and was supposed to say P226 Navy (Which DHS also never had) is so small.

I would say it is very rare any book gets so much correct on the firearm description and use as this fine series.

This is IMO the only set of SHTF books worth reading
