The dark web was mostly places like "Silk Road," and they've been shut down AFAIK.

Silk Road was a good place to get counterfeit foreign ID, although it was mostly useful only as ID for buying booze in college towns and opening bank accounts in Switzerland, where you have to "prove" you're not subject to U.S. Tax reporting in order to avoid the Swiss giving your ID to the IRS.

I don't know where the "dark" web is now, or if it's still up, but any precaution you would take when buying something on a strange site that's available on the usual web would apply times 10,000 for any "dark web" site.

Deep Web and Dark Web are two separate thing. The only reason they become synonymous to one another is because media reporting.

Deep Web is basically anything you store and only accessible by the use of proper login for example your emails is part of deep web because it require you to provide login credential to accessing them.

Back to your question now. Unless your communication traffic to your group require the use of Onion Routing (dark web) or you kept files there, I don't see any need to use it in relation to prepping. Furthermore if you are someone who need to routing your communication traffic with Onion Routing and keeping files hidden in dark web than you won't be asking this question in the first place.

If a Belorussian hooker or 2kg of Meth was essential for your preps then the dark web would be useful but no doubt illegal if not immoral.
The Deep Web (cringe) has its legal and very valid uses but so far I have not discovered anything enlightening in the survivalist sphere.

I think basic knowledge of onion and other more secure forms of encrypted conversation are likely useful.

I agree. But, people should not comment beyond their knowledge. Misinformation will cause problems for people who use it.

Isn't that what internet forums were made for?
It seems to be the most common use.

it's a way to meet Jeffrey Epstein

while he was alive
in prison
or wherever he is now

none of which appeal to me.

You might wanna try Quora.com, a successful troll there do get paid. Not sure how much but they do have a special paying program for it.

Another option would be managing an internet forum yourself, where you can unleash troll accounts to draw more traffic (more ads revenue)

Platform such as Facebook will also pay for "agitator"

More rumors, still no actual "help wanted" ads.

Ooohh, I have always been curious about the dark web but knowing my luck i'd get into something accidentally that would get me killed without knowing what the hell I did and that wouldn't be any fun and I'm completely serious.

Lol, this!
It's intriguing and I wonder what is out there, but I am nowhere near tech savvy enough to even consider it.

That is pretty much impossible. There is no search engine like google in dark web. You just can't "search" for illegal stuff. You either get address to sites from other people or a list of links somewhere. Quite often those lists are outdated.

I never found the silk road (I heard first time of it when it was taken down) but then I once came across the address for local version of it and I looked inside: it was a forum with sections for mail order drugs, guns, and stuff like that. It had a discussion part too but that was pretty much dead silent. It had nothing for me so I didn't return and few months after that I saw local news that it was busted.

As an example of legal use, both BBC and Facebook that have their presence in TOR network also. That way people whose governments blocks access to said services can access them anyways.

Personally I do launch TOR quite often, although I only have couple sites that I access: The Pirate Bay and sometimes Demonoid... Access to them is blocked by my ISP here. For me it is simply a way to bypass online censorship.

The deepweb can be searched but not by normal search engines.
These search engines will search the deep web
https://www.dailydot.com/layer8/best...earch-engines/

The darkweb is another story. It is not a place for the unwary neophyte.

Since the Tor network (Dark Web) was developed by the US Navy and released to the public at a time when the US government was pushing to ban civilian encryption, I think the dark web should be looked at skeptically.

The Tor network requires thousands of volunteers who operate "tor nodes" all over the world. When you browse the web using Tor, the data to and from your computer is handed off from node to node. Your computer initially encrypts the data and it is reencrypted at every node.

Only the node connected to you knows who you are but it doesn't know what data you're passing. Only the node on the other end knows who is on the other end but it doesn't know what data you're passing. Nodes in between know nothing.

Unfortunately, all that is needed to know everything and everybody on the Tor network is to own most of the Tor nodes. It's pretty easy for the world governments to do that. They would just need to rent space on a few thousand servers. And, who else would run a Tor node knowing that you might someday end up in trouble because your server was distributing kiddy porn, selling illegal drugs, or used to overthrow governments. If you operate a Tor node, all sorts of bad people are using the services you offer.

Since the silk road was brought down, Tor is now pretty much reserved for pedofiles and a handfull of geeks running wierd techy websites. Think phone phreakers or ham radio operators. I figure the only reason there hasn't been an international bust of tens of thousands of pedo's using Tor is that the world governments just aren't done watching all the traffic that we all think is encrypted and secret.
