I used to like saving a cheese packet, then when I'd get ham slices, I'd heat the ham & cheese up (much better heated up & kneaded well) then use a slice or 2 of the MRE bread & have a hot ham & cheese sammich in the field. Also adding the creamer packet to the peaches, adding a bit of water & have peaches & cream. I considered myself a master MRE chef.

You should have seen the C-rats in the 80's they distributed. 1950s and 1960s dates.

That took some real hunger to be brave enough to eat one. It took some real gallows humor and we were watching each other the next day to see if anyone keeled over. At least it was pressure canned.

They fought so hard to reduce the meal weight burden by a few ounces back then but somehow managed to add an extra 25 pounds of carry gear along the way. The gear burden is heavier now than it has ever been. They should have spent the MRE research money on body armor weight control instead.

The Yemen troops and civilians in Yemen right now are rejoicing that there is a swarm of locusts eating the crops. They are catching garbage bags full of the locusts and chowing down.

I mean they are super happy about the locusts to have something to eat.
