In their misguided attempt at all things 3-3-3, the AMRRON lists 446.030 as "Prepper Channel U3". There are radios that will not program anything but a channel evenly divisible by 12.5 or 25 KHz, so that channel is kind of bogus.

Those BaoFengShui radios and trashcans go together naturally. Better hope the spouse doesn't roll the EMP trashcan out to the curb!

Finally a good argument for a stout grounding wire on the EMP trash can.

I don't know where you are seeing 446.03. I am looking at my copy of the AmRRON SOI, Version 3 (APP-200-3.0 REV) and it lists 70cm as AmRRON 70cm, 446.025, Voice, Simplex.
Seems like you are working off of an outdated SOI.

Well it is out there.

Look for UHF Channel U3 Prepper PMR 446.030 MHz. Its kind of dumb putting that channel in there next to 446.025 MHz.

All of the above is the best reason in the world to get licensed, get a MARS endorsement on your license and plan to use MT63 or WinLink digital on HF, and exploit ALE (automatic link establishment) where practical for everything so then you can reach all the SHARES users that really matter and not be distracted by the bubba amateur knob twiddlers.

NNNN

My suggestion is to get your ham radio license. This will teach you to make your own antennas, use either simplex freqs or use a repeater system. If you know how to use your radio equipment as standalone, then using a repeater is easy. AFTER a SHTF event, you will only be able to use your equipment as standalone. You will have already configured your station as such. Small generator, gasoline for such, solar panels and charge controller, maybe a wind generator if you live in a windy place. Battery Bank, Inverters and etc. Extra radio, antennas and learn to make your own antennas. If you need help and have no communications, you will be out of luck!! Maybe you friend or family needs help but have no way to communicate with you.
Communications is a needed thing, right after food, water, ammo and shelter.

channel 18/40 AM/LSB/USB
channel 18/40 uhf wideband

under narrow band uhf you would likely do a repeater using low to recieve and high to call on.. though until wisdoms at the regulatory authority comes up witch a scheme that you aren't reusing frequencies causing issues of cross talk

you have to pass a 35 question test. if you are over 5, you will not be the youngest person who passed. I can't imagine being so puny I would recommend not getting a license. that ranks right up there with shoot yourself in the foot to avoid military service IMHO

In my area I've heard nothing but silence on my HT's scanning 146.52 and 446.000...
