And there you have it. A box magazine on the side of a lever action. Just learn how to carry it, learn how to shoot it and learn, after spending who knows how money, how ridiculous an idea this is.

Modify a lever action and fit a P90 mag underneath, it would become too wide to work with any larger rounds though. Even .223 would be pushing that handling threshold (try holding a 30 round .223 mag flat under a rifle barrel for reference) but the 5.7x28 dimensions wouldn't be bad, or most other pistol calibers for that matter.

Try putting three or four lever action tubes in a formation that rotate into the standard tube location. A manual twist operation to switch to the next tube. It would most likely be a delicate system unless you could beef it up in the right areas, good bracing and guards. It would be hefty too, but it's feasible.

29 September, 2019 Update;

Turns out this has been done and it looks like it would be a relatively easy modification on an existing lever action.

Adding more than three tubes and keeping them short would still increase capacity but keep it from being nose heavy.

Some people (like me) won't need to shoot long range. Well, at least if I do, it won't be defensive, so no need for high capacity. I do like the idea, but if you stick with the pistol calibers like .44 mag, or .357 mag, you can get one that easily holds 9 or 10 rounds factory...

I shortened a 24" barrel .44 mag Rossi 92 to 17" to get a more compact weapon, and it still holds 9 rounds easily. If I want, I can get 10 in, but that last one is kinda hard. Add a red dot, and a light, and it's a viable self defense gun for areas you can't have an AR or AK. It would be great in bear country.

Said it before and I'll say it again. For $69 drive out the SKS was a great rifle. At $350 it is a steaming pile of poo.

I'll take a $400 pawnshop Marlin 30-30 over the SKS any day at the current asking prices.
