Question G9 ammo

Advertise Here

Yesterday, while visiting a neighbor, he had me watch a video on the effectiveness of an exterior copper hollow point cartridge in .380 and 9mm. I returned home and watched another one with the designer of the bullet. Wow! Less muzzle flash, less recoil, way more effective flesh destroyer. That is definitely on my next town list. As that becomes known, it should replace a lot of ammo. And it will go through Kevlar with ease. And the police/military version in a rifle will penetrate plate vests.

I suppose gun buffs on this site already know about and use this for CCW.

Any opinions on this new (2017) ammo?

I've never heard of it until now, but usually gimmicky bullets like this eventually prove to be just that, a gimmick for the mall ninja crowd. I'll take a standard JHP design like the HST or XTP over this any day in a pistol.

That's what I said until I saw the proof in the three videos, with pork roast and a turkey and a 2X12, and learned that the manager of my local gun store now uses it for CCW all the time. It will also shoot through a car window or car door with no deflection. Same with water.

Lots of premium defense ammo has low flash signature. It's been a while since I watched these, but as I recall, 2 of them clearly had much less flash than the others, 1 was Hornady, can't remember the other for sure.

But does it come in .41 Super Duper Kills Everything Magnum?

What ever happened to your six shooter that you went on and on about being the greatest thing for everything?

I’ll just stick with HST’s and Golden Sabre’s.

Is Winchester's 300 Win-mag with a copper bullet considered a Hyper? I was just reading about that in my magazine.

Yes, one could call a rifle cartridge with velocities reaching over 3000 fps a hyper velocity round. And copper bullets have been in common usage for many years.

But that doesn't have anything to do with some boutique pistol round with dubious claims. There's nothing radical in light for caliber, hyper velocity handgun rounds.

Why would you carry AP ammo?

I’m still wanting to know why he dumped his .41 Magnum six shooter he was not shy of telling us forever that it’s all he and anyone else needed.

All he went on about was his all powerful .41 and how he didn’t need more than six shots and nobody else does either.

I’m genuinely interested in what changed his mind.
Was it the shooting at Walmart or something that made him realize that his cowboy gun just isn’t the best choice in today’s world or something else.

The .41 mag is an excellent round, which certainly serves a purpose. Having more than six shots is a good idea though.

After all the times the OP told tales of how one only needs a six shooter, I am wondering what changed his mind.

I never said it wasnít a decent round, I hunted with one for a couple years.
But I am curious as to why such a stalwart of the single action revolver is now seemingly interested in going another route.

I assume he has me on ignore, so I guess Iíll just go with he has finally seen the light that the world is not a nice place and that six shooters are best served for the movies rather than self defense roles.

Don’t know his history or rankings. Not a fan of single action either, but a nice Smith 57 fits the bill in many cases.

I'll quote you as I'd like to know also.

Like WD40 is the 40th iteration of their Water Displacement formula, the G9 is the 9th iteration of their Gimmick

just a reminder, Idaho survivalist is not from Idaho . . . don't paint us all with his brush
