I encourage folks to look up and get familiar with broad spectrum antibiotics before sutures. The easiest way to fester a wound is to close it up. Most bacteria cannot handle open air, which is why post surgery most large wounds are regularly opened up and irrigated.

I'll second what VW said, and also add my cautious endorsement of this product. The practice pad exceeds by a country mile anything I have seen offered by any other company for true simulation. That could replace pig's feet entirely. Okay, almost.
