Are you having any health issues since the electric company installed a smart meter on your house?

We had an odd smart meter for several years. Maybe an experimental type. As of late, they replaced it with a different type. My wife begin to have a ringing in her ears. After much research about health problems from smart meters, I wrapped the meter in a a screen. Basically, a faraday cage. Now, her ringing has went away. Is it just a coincidence?

Yeah, financial health issues. Centerpoint, the utility that forced us to pay for smartmeters, promised we would save money by cutting back electricity usage when system peak usage and costs were high, at 4 PM, and also save by using power more at night, like to charge your Tesla.
Well, the smartmeters track power usage by the hour but so what? The company still charges rates that are the same - summer, winter, day or night - same rate. So how can we get those big savings, you LIARS!

Smart meters are designed to remove the costs of meter readers in wages and liability. They can shut off late payers remotely and not have to send in a worker to get harassed to turn it off. Pay the bill and instant power returned no waiting for a utility to show up.

More integrated systems can tie into the breaker box and turn off specific items based on local loads and costs, it is a program you can opt into. Want a reduced bill let them turn off your AC or clothes dryer at specific times.

My usage costs actually went way up after mine was installed. I worked nights and my load was during daylight hours when it cost more.

Another big downside is they can brown you out whenever they want. Also like previously said they can turn your power off without anyone showing up. Dead of winter on a cold night by accident, a disgruntled worker, a wrong address, and power and gas goes off until they get a chance to check it out. In 2-5 business days.

I’ll pay the extra cost to keep the readers coming and be able to “persuade” them in person to keep the power on.

If you need to, open the main, pop the meter, jumper the socket, instal the "meter", close the main.

You can buy them on Ebay for less than $20

My husband has his own room, the meter is on that.

He has gotten a lot worse but I don't blame the meter. More bad nutrition, failure to exercise, heavy vodka consumption. Now, if he reversed all that and still had problems I might look at the meter.

I was hoping to get a legitimate discussion about the health issues, not a lot of nonsense about cost, and misc crap about shutting
off power from afar, & etc

Interesting.

I would guess your wife's symptoms could be from any number of things. Since her ear ringing went after after you covered the meter with a metal mesh, maybe your wife suffers from what some call EMF poisoning or EMF exposure.

Typical symptoms reported for EMF exposure are ringing in the ears, fatigue, trouble sleeping, brain fog, heart palpitations, and skin reactions.

It's a controversial area. Basically health officially only believe energy that can burn is considered harmful. Microwaves can be harmful as an example. EMF health issues are less understood and less believed.

Basically though if it was me, and I lived under a power line, and experienced health issues, I'd look to move regardless of what the official position is.

Interesting news about France but it looks kind of fake. No reason given.

French Meter Reader Union wins in court.

I am amazed the people will hold a radio transmitter (cell phone) up against their head for hours a day but freak out over a 10 second second burst outside the house every few days.

When my AM radio is on I can hear the meter reporting back to the home office.

I've seen reports where the meters transmit almost continuously.
In poor cell phone signal areas, the meters must relay the info from all the other meters that are further out in the cell phone dead zone. That way, the signals still get back to the company for billing.

And nowadays, they track minute by minute usage, for people with complex power contracts, like free nights and weekends, or lowered rates overnight, or interruptable power.

So it is more like a cell phone transmitting full time.

France caters to the unions, being the socialist utopia it is.

Good way to run a test: remove the screen from the meter or replace the metal screen with plastic screen, but don't tell your wife that you removed it. If your wife's hearing problem reemerges the meter might be at fault. If it doesn't, then your wife's problem isn't caused by the meter.
