More than likely they too have a circuit board (although simple) controlling the motor.
Any rechargeable beard trimmer has a minimum of an on board charge regulator circuit for the battery.

Weather these circuits are susceptible to the emp is a matter of debate.

I would error on the side of caution if in doubt.
If a trimmer is considered an important part of your preps, place a spare in your faraday box. They are cheap enough.

You might have more issue with recharging the batteries.

For a SHTF situation, where such issues are a distinct possibility, you might want something like this instead...

No batteries needed, and you can always talk someone into trimming your hair along with your beard and 'stache. It's an investment, but the gear takes up less space, and lasts a lot longer than batteries... or the trimmer.

If an EMP goes off, a well-groomed beard will be the least of our worries.

Or are you writing a book and want to know if one of the characters can use them?

Or are you actually wondering about some other kind of battery operated device but don't want to ask, and so are asking about beard clippers?
