I rather hope the cure has a secondary effect of killing a lot of other problems with our society beyond the virus. I guess some people would consider that worse.

One needs to consider very carefully exactly what Donald Trump means by "worse".

Well let's see, we're looking at nearly 10,000 new cases a day for the last couple days. That's going to get worse. How much worse depends on how the public behaves during the pandemic. Unfortunately, many people are going to look to the federal government and the President for guidance in this.

So if the President is inferring that the current measures and recommendations are 'worse' than the problem itself, I wonder how many more infections per day are worth relaxing them.

Yes. The answer is yes.

This is how Obama and the CDC handled the swine flu pandemic:

Where were the calls to shut down the whole U.S. economy during this?

Finally they are starting to realize the human consequences of shutting the economy down for months on end... it's about time.

Maybe the folks with underlying health issues should shelter in place and let the rest of the people get back to work... and that's coming from a guy pushing 70 that has COPD

On this same subject the president just **** in his mess kit saying we will back to work in a few weeks. News media is ripping him a new one for saying the virus is bad and getting worse but we can go back to work. WOW

yea, if i understood what he was saying, in like 2 weeks the country will reopen for business. they said the mortality rate was so low and mostly only affected people over 80 years old. they said they would open the country back up and focus on specific areas like NY, washington and Cali for further quaratine. citing the economic collapse (created by the cure) would be worse than worse the small amount of deathes in elderly (problem).

In today’s briefing he said what the tweet meant was that there will be massive depression and death (and then reiterated death) as a result of the “cure”. A reporter asked if by death he means suicide he said yes.

Trump is a massive fool. First he dragged his feet for 6 weeks, then he went into a half-hearted effort to address the problem WITHOUT actually taking a central and decisive role, and now he's thinking of backing off before we can even see how effective all the recent measures will be

MASSIVE FOOL!

The only person who is smiling right now is Herbert Hoover.

I suspect he doesn't even have a third grade understanding of science so this is all uncharted territory for him and all he can do is view it from a stock portfolio point of view.

I remember one of his first speeches on this and he was talking about how surprised he was to learn how many people the flu kills every year, like he literally had never thought about it before in his entire 70+ years of life.

I would think that the President is being advised by an army of medical experts right now. I would not give credence to any thing a politician says about this if they were not. He might be looking at a possible scientific advancement that would help deal with this virus or a possible setback that would make the situation worse.

I'm pretty sure they thing that makes Trump, Trump, is that he doesn't listen to ANYONE about anything. How he got elected....and probably how he will lose the next election.

IDK maybe you could find some old threads on SB calling for Obama to close America, surely they are here...

I think he's hoping this Hydroxychloroqine and other drugs will work fast. But like others have said we're gonna see a lot worse before it gets better.

Let's just hope he dosen't lift these restrictions too soon.

Indeed. I'm terrified that the first week we see any improvement in the numbers he is going to give an all clear and its going to be 1918 all over again.
