Default 9mm? TALKING TO longtime friend and gunsmith yesterday

Advertise Here

He operates a gunshop in the southern end of Mich in Detroit metro area.
Said that 9mm has disappeared.
He has had a lot of calls for it, none of his local suppliers have it in hand.

IS this like the great .22lr scare of years ago or is it just localized to southern Michigan?

Default 9mm? TALKING TO longtime friend and gunsmith yesterday

Perfectly normal for a situation like this where people are panicking. Lots of new gun owners out there buying ammo and existing gun owners topping up their stocks for whatever reason.

There is still ammo available in many locations, but there are a lot of people buying it.

Was not paying attention
Yes, I missed it
There is a run, big-time on many things including ammunition
I have more than my fair share of most everything
Was in Condition White on ammunition
But since I don't need or want anything, Thank God

WHITE
Unaware and unprepared. "Daydreaming" or "preoccupied”, oblivious to possible threat. If attacked in Condition White, the only thing that may save you is the inadequacy of your attacker

I have around 400 rounds of 9mm to fall back on. But I can see it flying off the shelves.

I was out for 12-gauge rounds on Saturday, both shops I was in were busy (selling guns and ammo...) and I was able to top off my stash. Anything in #00 and slugs is out.

I think the shortage has begun. I went to the garage to find some projectiles to reload. only found a little over 300 in 9mm. I am now out of 9mm projectiles. I appear to be reduced to 38 & 45 cal until I do some moulding.

Just looked at a few places online and even Sportsman's Guide and Ammunition Depot are out of all but the most expensive 9mm.
No sweat here as I feel I have "enough" as to not panic buy. Did pick up some more x39 as I recently added another mouth to feed in that caliber.

I don't see how this engineered panic can have much staying power, unless there is more to it than just this virus, or something can be added to it.

And that is possible. A bad economy is the only chance the liberal cult has of beating Trump. And they know it. That's why they manufactured this panic. So that raises the question of what else they might have up their sleeve.

The panic is a reminder of this old saying: ammo, the currency of the new millenium. This panic is a reminder that an essential part of a diversified investment portfolio is things with intrinsic value, that will hold their value (or go up in value) even when paper wealth has no value (insert toilet paper hoarding joke here). And ammo is at or close to the top of that list. But who would've thought toilet paper would be higher on the list than food? Is that rational? But none of this panic is rational.

This is where I buy a lot of my ammo, and they are so behind on orders they aren't taking any new ones for now:
https://www.sgammo.com/

Just imagine the panicked buying we'll see if it looks like Joe or Bernie might beat Trump. So my advice is wait this panic out, but when it gets back to normal stock up before we get too close to the election.

I have plenty so I'm not in the market anyway.

If you havent figured out by now that you should be buying/stocking all along, especially when times are good, and not waiting for the panics, then dont bother saying a word.

You should probably be out waiting in line somewhere for whatever is left to find and youre about to pay triple plus for.

I did my part today and "expended" 300 rounds of 9mm.

And it will be loaded back up and back in the queue in the next day or so too.

In the immortal words of Sony and Cher......"and the beat goes on".

There has been a window in the last 3 plus years to buy at decent prices and plenty of inventory in all calibers most everywhere

I've told people in here to get out and buy while the getting is good

If people are out, it's not my problem!

The good thing about this virus thing is "Quarantined" signs will actually carry some weight

I find it odd, after the first "shortage", that folks would be surprised by another. Yes, it's a bunch of goobs running out and building up their hoard, but I figured most folks are like me, and would go out and buy a couple boxes every week to keep my stock replenished.

Honestly, I haven't been anywhere since Cabela's last Monday, and that was before everything went batcrap loonball. I guess we'll see what happens, but I have plenty to shoot, and plenty more to load.

For people my age & probably most on here, that's true. But some young people say 18-22 haven't had as much time & usually don't have the income. Some can't even buy rifle's & ammo till they're 21, so I won't belittle them or mock them for not having the stock like I & others do who have been prepping since before they were born. Now if you are over ~25+ & don't have crap, then I don't have a lot of sympathy.

That's cause you need to go to the corner store & get a machine gun. Now getting a semi-auto at an actual gun store, THAT's hard in many blue states.

I'm good on food, water, and ammo. Am low on Toilet Paper.

I've been debating sending Polymer 80 Glock kits to some family members and friends.

Best friend moved to California. 20 years ago I gave him a Ishapore 308 Enfield Jungle Carbine with a couple boxes of ammo. I found that the gun kicked like a mule and I only had $75 invested in it. He liked it so I gave it to him.

Chatting with him yesterday, he still has it and the ammo. Said he'll have to dig around and see if he can find the magazine. I told him if he can't the rifle will still work as a single shot, loaded 1 at a time.

He votes on the right but never got much further into guns.

I could see sending him a Polymer 80 kit.

My sister and brother in-law live in Michigan, are republicans - well off and highly educated, but as far as I know don't own a firearm.

2 Nephews are in college and home for Spring Break. My niece is 16 in High School

I'm debating finding a Michigan dealer that does gift certificates and setting the 2 nephews up with Firearms - Shotguns and/or AR15's + mags and ammo. Nephews would need to do the 4473's.

My brother in-law can buy his own gun...

I just look at this as an excuse to buy a less common caliber. I see my local store has 44 special and 45 Colt in stock. I could use a big bore revolver...

9mm is a common caliber and popular carry platform. All cleaned out around here, I have no worries about it. A handgun is to self defend until you can get to your MBR, 1000,s of rounds of 9mm for practice but in reality give me more .223 or x39 for true defense.

If 9mm is scarce, wonder what calibers are still in stock?
