Modern or medieval?

I have a couple amazing and hard to find medieval crossbow books. Well, they where hard to find, I got both of them pre-Amazon.

I know nothing about modern ones.

The Crossbow,by Payne Gallwey

An old book, with some inaccuracies and odd parts, but its the classic work.

European Crossbows: A Survey by Joesf Alm.

This is the holy bible of medieval crossbow making with every detail documented and footnoted.

If its a modern cross bow they're pretty much ironclad idiot proof and come with a 10 page booklet of instructions on how to assemble and operate it. When PA game commission allowed Xbows the lines in archery stores the day before archery season to buy Xbows was impressive. In like 10 minutes the sales people had them shooting sweet groups at 20 yards in the indoor range.
I was impressed, but waited another 10 years to buy my first xbow.
I was a little resentful about these walk on archers who never put the range time in to get good at shooting a bow now being able to just go out and shoot deer in archery season, I thought the woods would be over run with camo clad city dudes shooting at anything that moved. It never did happen.
You live and learn though and I love shooting my Carbon express Xbows

Youtube videos from Tod's Workshop will give you useful information. Great minds think alike (fools seldom differ).
