Actually when I heard there was a press conference I thought it was going to be to announce they're not charging. That announcement was expected about now. I think they decided to do a last minute desperation play to buy their way out of riots.

I was one of the early people doing medic duty for protests. Organized some of the groups and even traveled. Handled a lot of heat exhaustion, trench foot, diabetics, plain ol' accidents, etc. Not so much from fights but from people physically exerting themselves that weren't used to doing it. Back when it was entirely legit. They figured out we weren't getting arrested and decided to pose as us. When I was doing it it was physicians, nurses, EMTs/Firefighters, and at a minimum CNAs. Now they do 10 minute 'teach ins' and think they're a 'trained medic'. Same story with 'press.' They figured out that the press could be standing there and not get arrested, so they started posing as press to avoid getting arrested.

My employer (News station) has been told we will have a heads up, enough time to hire extra security.
I don't believe it.

I heard dozens of police officers from Atlanta resigned there today.

Looks like more of us are going to wind being on our own in the fun which is coming!

The sheriff's departments outside the cities and state patrols are going to gain qualified people.

Every rookie class in every suburb surrounding the big cities might be full of officers with 5 to 10 years of experience in the bigger city. A great way to cut training costs.

Don't you love politicians?

https://m.startribune.com/mpls-counc...ave/572422612/

Quote:
Three months after their majority pledged to end the city’s police department, the Minneapolis City Council pressed chief Medaria Arradondo for a plan to address crime in their wards in their most forceful questioning of him yet.

Council President Lisa Bender described conversations with constituents who said responding patrol officers told them that they weren’t enforcing laws and that the bloodshed would continue unless the city hired more police, an observation echoed by several of her colleagues.
The city council wants to abolish the department, so the police stop enforcing some laws. Then the council asks the police why they aren't doing their jobs. The jobs the council are eliminating when they abolish the department.

Who are they going to complain to about not enforcing laws after there aren't any police?

My point is that in both cases it was conspiracy theory nonsense.

police are not asking for special treatment

but when you train them, and teach them the case law they have to abide by, and then politicians throw that all out the window and throw you under the bus to get votes in a primary, that's not a tenable situation. a lot of these officers have families. they can't go to work every day no knowing whether they are going to be charged with a capital crime that day because they did what they were trained to do. no person in any job could do something like that.

I listened to the story and the Atlanta PD is at almost 200 officers below full force numbers. With multiple fired and now blocks of them retiring and leaving. I bet there many more planning retirements and hundreds of others job hunting like crazy.

Like all metro areas, they are surrounded by suburbs. So officers may not even need to move to continue being in law enforcement.

US AG Barr considers 2020 riots to be (legally) sedition

I think cops are glory hounds a little bit, or at least maybe a little bit more than they sometimes realize. And the restrictive rules of engagement for dealing with antifa just does not jibe with that.

Being a cop is a cool job. They're people who signed up to be one of the types of stars of our society.

But when you look at all the videos of the 2020 riots-- wow. The rioters' narrative is that cops are abusive, but pretty often the cops are enduring a LOT at these demonstrations.

And in some places, there have been 12 hour shifts and days off cancelled.

Therefore, no wonder cops feel like they're not getting what they wanted, and are leaving.

That makes a lot of sense. Why get out of the profession when there are are plenty of other places where antifa / blm isn't running wild yet.

I would bet their reasons are several.
Sworn to uphold laws created by our society yet despised or even hated for doing so. Id also bet a lot of cops leaving the larger riot areas are simply fed up with putting it on the line, taking the lumps and bumps (and worse) to arrest those most responsible only to see those same people getting released and back to rioting the next night. And certainly having to be the scapegoats by their superiors despite doing their best to restrain themselves dealing with the scum of the nation... has to take a heavy toll.

the more that leave the harder it gets on those left...more work for fewer hands leads to burnout in any industry, and less backup if things go sideways, less backup and more stress leads to more mistakes, which either ends up dropping more cops in hot water or getting them hurt/killed

it's a downward spiral of increased lawlessness that people in these cities are going to pay for in more ways than one
