Wow!

That’s crazy. You’d think they’d honor outstanding purchased tickets. I mean...if it were me, I’d be finding a way to go about lining up a class action against the proceeds of the bankruptcy, because they freaking owe me money, just like any other creditor.

The British government says it will reimburse all British customers for their losses and costs. Non-Brits are, apparently, on their own at least as far as getting reimbursement is concerned.

Why is the government (tax payers) going to eat that cost? Seems a bit idiotic.

I think they are going to have to. Travelers nightmare.
The travelers gave their money to the company.

Kind of hard to honor tickets when your planes aren’t flying. And as soon as you face insolvency, a first world CAA will shut you down less you try to piece an operation together with your remaining demoralized, and potentially not getting paid personnel.

My understanding is the Scandinavian and German subsidiaries resumed flying. The British flights are covered by some sort of FDIC like shared risk pool insurance that covers travel agents- they will refund outgoing flights and organize return flights.

Somebody should go to jail for this. They took their money, they have an obligation to them. I wonder how many people will lose their jobs over this, will get mugged while stranged, etc? They were intentionally being put in harms way...

Again, how's that the government's responsibility? I'm assuming this is a public corporation and not government ran. Like if American stopped flights this second - the government wouldn't reimburse travelers for hotel, rental vehicles or additional tickets (though they'd give American money to stay afloat no doubt).

Remember...Britain is socialist, at heart. Not as much as they used to be, but still...it's ingrained into the system. All major transport used to be nationally owned. I think the rail system still is, despite failed efforts to privatize and legal games to make it look like it isn't actually socialized?

But I could be wrong about that.

So you believe in debitor prisions? I’m sure the banks would love that one.

Can we throwing striking workers in jail too, if they leave me “in harms way” ( vacation runs longer than planned.). In fact I missed the chance to see the Saint Louis arch due to the govt furlough- does that give the dems cause to impeach trump? Or should all of congress go to jail? With no LEO in the park was I in harms’s way?

Enough of the social justice nonsense, they join the queue with all the other creditors if not ATOL protected.

Our railways are no more socialised than those of the USA.
