Another radio some guys are backpacking is the WouXun-KG-UV950P which boasts a transmit of 26.000-29.995MHz, 50.000-53.995MHz, 136.000-174.995MHz, & 400.000-479.995MHz. It also says it has an eight group scrambler. In fairness, I've not tested this radio to give it a fair review. I have two friends who have it and they seem to be pleased by the quality. Both are hams and they use the amateur radio portions, buy they have used the IB frequencies and say the quality is good. On 52.535, 146.52 (FM) my one friend sounded good. One precaution if someone uses these, 30-33 is mostly government except for 30.8400 which is itinerant. (should have license). Also, the CB portion is FM and not AM or SSB. Still, if all heck was breaking out this would be a better than average secure radio to use.
