I was browsing acreages for sale in our lovely state and noticed a large number of them seemed to be in the Custer area. Anyone know why there is so much being sold there?

I've looked at property listings for the state many times over the last few years, there have always been lots of listings around the hills. It's a destination that is known outside the state, so it gets more listings in publications/sites that cater to a wide audience.

The property values and taxes are usually higher for the same reasons.

I grew up there, family still lives in the area. Lack of jobs, and a higher cost of living are the main reasons. There is no fracking, some talk of collecting sand in the Hills to support Bakken fields, but that has all dried up now.

If you have the money and the income, it is one of the best areas to live in. Honest people, for the most part , lots of area to camp, shoot and hike. PM if you have specific questions.
