Fair enough when you consider everything in the midwest named Jefferson.

I doubt it. Greenlanders per capita income is much higher than Puerto Ricansí and they have universal healthcare.

Renaming many of the cities there would be a great idea. Have you ever tried to pronounce those words? Let alone getting the correct spelling 2 out of 3 attempts.

That's the smart move and the right move, but the Democrats will make them states first chance they get.

Make Greenland a territory, just like Puerto Rico. Offer free land to all Californians willing to move there and "help save the environment." Since no liberal can resist the urge to do that, all the liberals will move there, making California a red state. All the California liberals, used to that warm southern California climate, will freeze to death in the Greenland winters, keeping Greenland's population from growing big enough to become a state. It's a win win.

Sarcasm in not easily recognized in writing; especially on this board where stupidity is so common.

It is behind a paywall, so I can't read the article.
Greenland has Rare Earth Element deposits and a whole bunch of unusual rocks like anorthosite, which can be used for a variety of industrial applications where substitutes are inferior.

It's also geostrategic: you can check submarines and boats heading for the northwest passage.

All joking aside, it's not a bad idea. It will probably never happen, but is still a good idea depending upon what Denmark would want for it. Whatever we pay for it we will make back in the use/selling of those rare earth elements, and whatever else they can find there to use. It might take 50 years to recoup the cost, but eventually we would come out ahead...just like with the Louisiana purchase and Alaska.

Course nobody in this country, at least most of those in power, is capable of thinking more than 3 months into the future.

I would just offer Denmark "a piece of the action".

the more resources we bring to market, the more money they make.

Should be an easy sell if Greenland is currently costing them a fortune.

MANY YEARS ago when Quebec was threatening to succeed from Canada I was doing a motorcycle trip into the Maritime Provinces .

When we talked to the locals about the situation over 90% of the folks said Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick had already kicked it around and they would petition to be admitted the the states as either a territory or a state.

At the same time there were rumblings about British Columbia and Alberta going their own way. They were tired of sending money to Ontario and getting nothing back for it. I think if Quebec had gone on with succession that Canada would have become broken up into several different "countries", eventually falling into the US fold.

AS for Greenland, the Danes will never let it go

and

The arctic, not the South China Sea will be the next place WWIII might start.

I wonder if Greenlanders looked at the differences between being part of Denmark or a territory of the USA, which they would choose?

They could do a Brexit type vote then chose for themselves.

Yes, why ask Denmark? There's only 56,000 Greenlanders, per capita income less than $50,000. Write some checks, let them vote. It's the American way.

Once again, Both Danes and Greenlanders have made it clear that Greenland is not for sale.

There's only like 12 people living there. They get to hog an entire continent to themselves?

Send the Clintons up there. Everyone will be dead within a year tops, except the Clintons of course.

Hey, I was born on Earth (so they say), so I own the entire Earth.

I suppose President Trump could order an invasion and occupy Greenland. He better hurry, though. We might have trouble with Greenlandís Wolverines in the middle of winter.
