Default TSA weapon confiscations/disposal

Was checking EBay for some folding pocket knives when I came across several postings for multiple folding knives by a seller who states they were seized by TSA.

I always thought ALL items seized by TSA were destroyed, or am I wrong? So....if these prohibited carry on items are being sold, what happens to the guns also seized?

Took the time to also send an email to my senator and waiting for his reply. (And no, it aint that A hole Reid, either.)

They've always sold stuff taken at airports. Even before the TSA. I don't know what they do with the guns though. Those are probably destroyed.

I'm pretty sure guns are destroyed. Everything else taken or left is auctioned off in what is called baggage auctions. Every now and then you might find one in a blind bag but depending on state laws you are supposed to turn it in. Of course if you found the needle in a pile of hay stacks gun old enough to not have any numbers then what you do is your business.

Dad and I used to go to them before the whole auction reality crap hit tv. After that everybody was trying to be a dave hester wannabe, quickly turned annoying and not worth the time.

TSA workers routinely take home the stuff they confiscate. there are sites filled with pictures they post of the stuff they get.

don't know specifically about firearms, but state police, county sheriff and city police around here auction them off a couple times a year. last time I got 2 SKS, AK47 NIB, and my 1917 S&W .38 special...some of the stuff they sell doesn't even look legal, that stuff goes high, but regular guns tend to go cheap. I paid $150 ea for SKS and $350 for the AK, and $90 for the pistol (which appraised for $600)...

The stuff they take (and actually hand over, because the TSA workers dont want it) is sold here locally. I used to be able to get some pretty nice knives and such for $5 to $10, but now everybody knows about it, so all you can get is junk for $3.

There are TSA clearing houses in most states. Check to see if it is open to the public and times, etc.

Here is a list.
