Natural and manmade disasters seem to be popping up everywhere. Do any of you know of any source that tracks these kind of things. I watch RSOE but wonder is there anything else...

On thing, we are exposed to more information than ever before. I would suggest tempering the overwhelming amount of doom and gloom news with some historical perspective. While it may seem like we might be having more stuff happening, it is worth making sure to give it some context in history for scale or regularity.

WilliamAshley That is exactly what I have been looking for. Had no idea they had their own mapping system but when you are as big as they are, why not..

Now, as far as tempering anything, I been at this a hell of a long time. I am as tempered as I am going to get. I have my own set of filters I run info thru and am not swayed by childish flashes in the pan.

Charlie I feel you on the USGS. I am a stones throw from NMF and even though I don't think the girl has much bang left in her, I still watch with a cautious eye, just in case I am way wrong!!

That would suggest all the problems in Africa are resolved...

This is actually a great time in history to be alive. Step away from the doom and gloom so many predict, and enjoy today, and prepare for tomorrow.

Whatever you think is going to happen probably won't. The 2014 ebola scare that got me thinking that power and water could be a problem, prompted me to increase my solar and invest in a few more water filters... however these were utilized after Hurricane Michael.

If you do some news searches, you'll see the events that end the year (crisis) are usually resolved and or replaced with different ones the next year. In other words, prep for things like power outages, water and food shortages, (unless you live in that event prone area).

You will be best served to have basics like guns, ammo, knife, flash lights, fire starting devices, short range coms, fishing equipment, tools, back up power sources, back up fuel, oil and spark plugs for your genset if you get a lot of use after a grid issue, dry food, water filters, some broad spectrum antibiotics, basic medical supplies, offline maps... have back ups to the backups.... and be resourceful with your environment. That garbage bottle can be used to hold fresh water, scoop water, store seeds, hold ammo, cut the cap if you need a small bushing, a bait holder, a rodent trap, the wrapper can be used if cut as a small tie, enough of them could be used to help something float, a bunch of rain catches or moisture collector...

This is sometimes useful for obscure news stories. Itís a bit too tin foil hat for me.
