If it doesn't have anything to do with Trump, Trump or Trump, the lame-stream media goes right past it.

There is a lot of stuff going on that would have gotten decent coverage 4 or 5 years back.

There are many countries based on US welfare standards where daily life is a SHTF environment.

Proximate cause is that the IMF forced the government to cut subsidies for gasoline and diesel, so the pump prices have doubled.

Ecuador's problems are caused by Ecuador just like Venezuela's problems are caused by Venezuela. Neither are President Trumps doing.

Without ethics a population will rationalize that they deserve more and those with more are undeserving.

As Trump puts more emphasis on stopping illegal immigration, less money is being sent to countries south of the border by both illegal and legal workers. Until Trump came on the scene, whether the Pres was a Rep or Dem, illegals could come to the US, live twenty to a room, save their money to take back to Mexico or wherever, and then do the same thing for decades if they wanted to.
With those remittances and drug revenues drying up, folks south of the border are looking to their governments for help, and so far the politicians aren't up to the job.
Now that our military is decoupling from foreign entanglements, it's about time to send them to the border so they can search trucks and put a stop to the drug trade.
My only complaint about Trump's domestic policy is that he isn't doing enough to stop the flow of drugs over the border.
If I were one of Trumps advisers, instead of stressing that the Wall is supposed to stop the "poor, unfortunate illegals," I'd claim that it's main purpose is to stop drugs. You'd get the same result in that illegals would be stopped, but the Dems couldn't argue against it.

Good point - that stopping the drugs trade and remittances will be a terrific blow to economies below the border.

I think the root problem, though, is the incompetence and corruption of their governments. An economist named de Soto has pointed out that these countries don't have any proper means to guarantee title to property, so investing in land or improvements to it are too risky. Needless to say you can't get loans using property as collateral.

Someone else has also done a study of how long it took to get a license to open a simple retail business. Years, in some countries, unless you paid hefty bribes all along the way.

No bloody wonder their economies suck, and people turn to the narcotics industries, or try to emigrate. (Bringing the ethics of their homelands with them, which is exactly why we shouldn't let them in.)
