Are the Marine reserves ordered to active duty on U.S. soil a couple of days ago? Saw this rumor posted elsewhere and followed it back to the Official Website Of The United States Marine Corps:

I don't know how to interpret the order as written but I think in general it's about: "MARINES ORDERED TO ACTIVE DUTY ISO DEFENSE SUPPORT OF CIVIL AUTHORITIES".

So I take that as they're supposed to be ready to help civilian authorities ...TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN RESPONSE TO A MAJOR DISASTER OR EMERGENCY"

The stuff in caps is copied and pasted from the order.

What about the date near the top of the document? "Oct 16" is that significant?

That is what I read.

They do it here quite a bit to help out with cyclones and stuff.

Military has a massive access to mobile relief gear. From bridges to showers to big freaking trucks that can access remote areas. (Go the bushmaster)

Which I approve of as it is my tax dollars paying them to sit there otherwise.

The only required job of the federal government is to protect the USA from all enemies both foreign and domestic. The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the military. So I do not see a problem.

Interesting link thanks.

The Posse Comitatus Act and subsequent legislation specifically prohibit the use of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines to enforce the domestic laws of the United States except when expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress.

There is no prohibition on any/all armed services to be utilized in an emergency response/supportive role on US soil at any time.

An Act cannot supersede the Constitution.

We would sit up in the hills of SoCal and radio the BP when we saw people we thought were smuggling drugs or people from mexico.

We did not directly conduct law enforcement activities.

The Posse Comitatus Act and subsequent legislation specifically prohibit the use of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines to enforce the domestic laws of the United States except when expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. This information is 100% right HOWEVER there is nothing to keep our military forces from assisting local law enforcement personnel when needed. In other words, if the police in some small town or city needed help of some kind, any of the military services could help the local constabulary that needed help. After all, how many cops actually have the tools and training to handle or deactivate a nuclear bomb or bio-chemical weapon?

What you're looking at is a contingency plan. All military services have them in place. If a hurricane is due to hit the east coast then the Navy sends its ships far away from the eastern ports to other places where they will be safe. If a huge or bad storm approaches an airfield, the Air Force moves its airplanes to bases that are safe and secure away from the storm area. If trouble is expected, the Marines and Army anticipate it and make appropriate plans to help the local police in some fashion.

Depending on what is close to the different cities and so on, different military groups will help provide different help and services. Around Washington all the services will provide some kind of help when needed or asked. In most emergency situations, the local government leaders are required to formally ask for help in a letter from the military. So if Washington wants to use Marines for crowd control, the mayor and police chief have to sign off on a letter asking for such help and make the request an official one. That's the only way that our military troops are allowed to enter into local frays, unless the President sends them in at his discretion in a national emergency. You know, like if a Democrat coup-de-tat were to suddenly go violent instead of remain political...

One other thing is the limiting time factor of 120 days in the initial or opening statement of that order. That 120 day period is used for when a natural disaster hits. Most disasters are pretty well done with by the 120 day period and things have returned to normal. The Army National Guard also uses the 120 day time period for their activation period too when a disaster is involved. Most of the time factors involve medical units or other such units like them. I wouldn't even begin to worry about this update for the Marines because it's meant for a limited time use and for emergencies only.

You talking about this R 031419Z OCT 19?

If so that is an indicator that it is a routine precedent message that was logged in by the originating message center at 2:19 pm GMT on the third of October 2019, nothing sinister.

The stuff in caps is copied and pasted from the order.
It's instructions "In case of emergency...."
It's not an order to activate any troops

You left out the first half of the sentence:

Quote:
MANPOWER GUIDANCE FOR ACTIVATION AND DEACTIVATION OF RESERVE COMPONENT (RC)
