Hick Industries, sounds like you are doing the right thing for you. In fact, in your circumstances I'd be tempted to dump the .40 and go with 10mm.

I did buy a Sig 220 in 10mm and mounted my streamlight on it. Carry it every night when checking strange noises.

.40's are cheap and with a barrel ($50-$80) and mag swap are a 9mm.

I picked up a $340 3rd gen G23 last week with box and 3 mags.

Couldn't get a 19 for that nearly as easily.

Couple of months back I let my 23 go, not because I wanted a 9mm but because I wanted to put a light under it and it was a Gen2.

Right now I am debating on 23 or 27.

If I lived where animals weren't a concern, I might consider a 9mm. But I don't.

And a Colt LW Officers model keeps calling me, despite the lack of a light.

Right now CDNN has a bunch of used SIG's in 40. It says most are like new.
