Default Friendly reminder about asking questions and starting threads

Advertise Here

A friendly reminder to all members that you can ask whatever you want without the fear of being told to "Use the search feature."

It has ALWAYS been my policy that members can ask whatever they want without fear of the thread being locked, or the member being dinged by a moderator. That is, as long as the question is inline with the topic of the forum.

Sincerely,

The owner.

Probably it's time for a changing of the mods. Some (cough) Mikek (cough), have been allowed to dole out their brand of justice for a long time with no oversight. Would be nice to get that little internet commando in front of me someday and see how bold he'd be at that point.

I agree 100% The idea is not just information gathering. A forum is not a library after all, its a place of discussion. New insights can always be gained asking similar questions different ways.

The times I've asked a question and been told to use the search feature, I would end up not getting the answer I wanted. There would be pages on the topic in question, but no posts that specifically addressed my question, so I'd end up asking anyway.

Plus the sheer volume of threads and posts can be pretty daunting! There are so many you can pull up dozens of pages of replies to some things!

MikeK has been one of the more level headed Mod's on this forum.

Your silly challenge perfectly illustrates your immaturity.

I think you should join the Military (when you are old enough) and gain some grown up knowledge and perspective and then come back with decent posts.

BitcoinBoy? How apropos.

The mods here are the best on any forum I've been on. They only come down hard in extreme circumstances, and they don't coddle.

What are you talking about, dude?

Over the years I have posted my stance on this topic in various threads, but those threads were buried.

I may move this thread to the site information section so it will be easy to find.

When I am on other forums and ask a question, it is aggrevating when a mod locks my thread and tell me to use the search nect time.

So the answer for this community is, don't worry about the search feature, just as your question.

This is the best forum I've come across in terms of user friendliness and sheer volume of good information. The mods here do a great job, and a thankless one as well.

It's great to have pages of a topic, but as I mentioned, sometimes you don't get the exact answer you need, from someone who has actually done whatever the question is. I could do internet searches all day on something, but I want to find out how it worked for someone who actually did it and not just read the theory of it.

Thank You Kev. Too many forums are eaten up by members and moderators who whenever a question is asked go back years and if it has been already asked jump the OP and tell them to search.
I have seen several otherwise good forums die because of this exact issue. This policy is why this forum will last.

Another vote for Mike.

His being a Mod is a plus. Its a thankless job. I think his comments are generally spot on.

Just my opinion.

Just a FNG chiming in. Kev has an excellent site and having been taking to task by Mike, I have no issues. When I visit someones house, I refrain from commenting on the decor, the level of housekeeping or the number of dishes in the sink. In that context and this, I am a guest. Making judgments or offering complaints is just plain rude in my book. I find in the search for wisdom and guidance, humility is required.

Thanks to Kev, Mike and all the Mods. This site is the finest I have found in the last 18 years.

Many questions about Gray . . . . but then there are so many shades of Gray.

Anytime I figure the user should have used the search engine, I figure their first question would be "how does that work." So, I just do the search for them and add some SB Post links. Many times, as TxHannah stated, the linked prior posts are close, but not on target.

Hopefully, the background helps the crowd with background info.

There are at least two ways to search, Internal Search and a Google [Your Question] Site:survivalistboards.com Google search.

For the really stupid leading questions, I look to see if it is their first posts. If it is, I just move along.
