Default I have chingapin nuts

Advertise Here

Guy I know has the only tree he knows of on his farm and I got some nuts.

Now they will likely die before producing, but I'm willing to try.
(He says the tree is perhaps 40 years old, so it's grown to maturity since the blight.)

I'm willing to send some seeds to the first six people who post on this thread that they are willing to try to grow them into trees.

Post and PM me your address and I'll mail you a handful at my cost next week.

Chestnuts are an easy to grow tree on most soils except alkaline IIRC. I am growing them. Chinese and hybrid chestnuts such as the dunstan do well in NWFL. The chinquapins in my area are not as common as they were at one time. Normally need at two different chestnuts within reasonable distance. Blight resistance is a must for growing chestnuts.

I think there may be some claimed blight resistant american chestnuts in existence; these would be the only ones in the lower 48 that would have a good chance of surviving chestnut blight.
For me in the south the dunstan amrican-chinese hybrid is the easy button.

I'd love to give them a try. I'm in zone 5b, but try to get seeds/seedlings good to zone 4 when possible.
Thanks

I've tried to PM the OP about 4 different times, and the messages never show up in my PM sent box. Any idea why I might be having this issue?

Probably just a mis-reading of what I thought was there. When I go to the top of the page and select "Private Messages" it takes me to a page which says "Private Messages in Folder: " with an arrow to select Inbox or Sent. When I select "Sent" I was not seeing what I thought I should see. Again ... just me not seeing the expected.

Sigh ...

Seems like I had to tell the site to save my sent messages... Seems like default is to discard.
Look in your personal settings... See if you can't fix it to your expectations.

Excellent! I found those setting and updated them appropriately. I think I had updated those when I first joined, but somehow when back to the default settings somewhere along the way. Thanks!

OP, sorry about the off topic discussion here ....
