On my person: SIG-Sauer P225 & extra mag, Böker Turbine pocket knife, Trayvax wallet.

Behind me: PTR91 & loaded mag, Bundeswehr equipment belt and suspenders with four additional magazines, first aid kit, and small equipment pouch.

Pick up the flashlight on the way out the door...wait a minute...I'm already where I would be if I had to BO. I'm not going anywhere.

Right now- not much, a can of skoal in pocket, new hooded sweatshirt (Christmas present), moccasin slippers. But we plan on bugging in, and if we have to leave in a hurry I can grab a pair of jeans hanging on the door with keys, 11 in one tool, P38 can opener, money, credit cards, pocket knife and bug out bag, and cat on the way out. Everything else is in vehicle ready to go.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Default comms gear

what is the preferred comms gear to everyday carry for SHTF? and is it better to be more or less interoperable with those around you?

I’m retired now working part time and consolidated my get home bag with my computer bag. In the bag I have a first aid kit to include a tourniquet; two water filters (one is in its own water bottle); fire starter with ferro rod and a couple bic lighters. Two safariland RLS tactical AAA flashlights; gloves; a clear plastic sheet (folds small); a 50ft roll of para cord; fixed blade bush knife by condor; snacks such as meat sticks and cliff bars; roll of electric tape; old gerber multi pliers; two spare magazines for the Sig P365 I wear on my ankle. I also have on my person a Swiss Army pocket knife and a Cold Steel holdout 3. I’m a vest wearer so some things are easier to carry in the vest like wallet, keys and cell phone. The Scottie vest actually does a great job carrying a water bottle because of a large wide strap in the right front pocket which forces the bottle to stand and not flop in the pocket. If weather is ugly I throw a frog toggs rain coat in the bag as well. The bag is a Walmart Special backpack and from the time I leave my house till I get home it is in arms reach. I almost forgot to add the map and compass I recently bought.

Public holiday today so I’m at home getting the house prepared for summer. Which means I’ve got everything with me. Just been cleaning and making sure all the A/C units work on all settings. Spent some of yesterday changing my GHB from winter to summer mode. Less warm clothes, an extra 1.5L water bottle in place.

About to go start on some garden beds for growing summer salad and whatnot. Citrus trees have all been fruiting well and mango season is about to start. The mango tree in the back yard is flush with flowers already, and the banana trees are flowering as well.

All the herbs are growing perfectly and the chilli bushes are starting to grow again after winter. It’s going to be hot the next couple of days so some watering will be done by hand later this afternoon when it’s cooler.
