I will wait and see if the Venezuelan minister of information is telling the truth. He might be: he might not be

edited to add: "CNN teams on the ground said power has been restored in many parts of Caracas, but not everywhere."

With 2 independant sources saying so, it seems that the electricity in Venezuela has at least improved

I don't see this as a political issue - or politics will not alleviate the humanitarian issues - they are fueling human rights abuses and hardship.

Politically I see no political conflict as good conflict - politics should be about building bridges and winning people over by presenting better options.

The idea of sanctions is never good - it usually goes hand in hand with war. I support a free market and that means that everyone needs to be free to trade with people they want to trade with. I don't like government interference with trade.

The sanctions situation has pretty much required Venezeula to buy from China and Russia, prior to the sanctions Venezuela got a large chunk of its finished goods from the US.

Its not about Maduro or "the Bolivarian Socialist Republic of Venezeula" it is about the 30 million human beings in Venezuela that deserve water, food, and shelter.

The big picture is that there are a lot of problems on the planet. Putting our energies towards ruining peoples lives is not productive, it is destructive.

Venezuela has issues, but it is being handed over to the Chinese social control model (including associated smart cities and social monitoring technologies) as a result of American sanctions.

It needs to rebuild and modernize its economy and that takes decades. It has issues because oil is on the way out. They will make money off of oil but the oil economy has perhaps 20 or so years and a generally declining oil price will happen until fracked oil reserves are depleted.

There is no good prognosis for Venzeula as an oil state, it needs to diversify and rebuild, and that will likely be done through some form of China's Belt and Road intiative and turning Venezuela into a Chinese Protectorate.

That however is a better alternative than an isolated Venezeula were the Venezuelan's starve to death.

Again I am not political in terms of other states, I think people should have the right to their freedom of association and political and religious rights of self determination.

As long as people aren't shoving their beleifs down your throat live and let live. Its about individual freedom anything that doesn't violate peoples human rights or force expectations of controls, or loss of mobility should be viable.

I think the US really is taking an imperialist position on Venezeula - to preserve American domination in the Americas as per manifest destiny / Monroe.

At the end of the day the US made a ton of money off of Venezuela. It pretty much shut down all western trade with Venezuela though, so that relationship was handed over to the Russians and Chinese.

Its furthering the destruction of the international system - that will reinforce 1st 2nd and 3rd world economics. It will have widespread effects.
That I won't go into detail in this post.

However the collapse of states will help the climate issue, Venezuela is shipping again though.

It did damage but the real damage was to relations with the west, they are degrading heavily. more or less the west is being cut out of Venezuela due to US foreign policy. (Bear in mind there is also a US social control system, not to single out the Chinese as the only people concerned with technological population control technologies.)

Even less so in a metropolitan area like Caracas.
Please donīt even think for a moment that such mock of a government, that failed state that is the maduro gang and the 2k generals that are part of the warlord gang is something like the military in some other country.

The ministry of prisons, Varela, is a devil of a woman who got out common inmates to cover the military that have been fleeing away by the dozen.

There is not even one uniformed personnel in there that deserves consideration.

I know it because I had to leave almost 2 years ago. Yes, the situation is bad. I used to talk with my family almost every day, and now every 4 days with some luck.

Some friends who stay behind (some of them used to laugh at me because I liked to talk about the need to be prepared) are now trying to get solar panels, batteries, with their families that could leave.
There is a lot of things I could mention, maybe you can get some useful info in the other thread "Venezuela coming apart".

Be safe people!.

Good to see you are back and ostensibly safe. Couldn't agree more with your analysis of our self-anointed expert. There is a difference between regurgitating what you want to read in the media vs. what someone there on the ground is witnessing locally.

Saw your post in the other thread; a former coworker of mine moved his entire family to Chile.

Dear Terri,

They NEVER tell the truth.

Ever.
Trust me.

Iīm starting to believe that my dad is (sadly) getting senile. A few months ago could send some money, and wanted to buy a solar panel my former boss is selling (sheep there donīt have a clue about how to use it, but this guy had a small farm and sold it because of the rampant crime stole him something everyday). My dad told me to cut the Cr*p, stop buying "useless s**t" and he wanted to use that money for new tires for his car. Dang I was p**d off. Iīm going to need a solar when I come back. Now I start wondering if they really want me to come back though.
