I don't have mine linked to my email or bank account so all they will find is a list of work suppliers, cab drivers, and a bunch of cat photos.

Edit: I forgot the text messages. From my husband. They are pretty graphic. I don't think they want those visions in their head.

As someone in the comments of the article stated, if they can unlock the phone, whats to stop them from putting info back into the phone?

I just spent 3 hours at my elderly moms place trying unsuccessfully to unlock her Google account so her laptop will work again ( I keep telling folks cloud services are evil but they don't listen) , if I had known this I would have called 911.

That is 100% astute, they could easily plant stuff then "discover it" later.

And what about DNA? They could grow some evidence using your saliva and plant it as blood evidence.

Hawk, I have an Android 5. I doubt it could support whatever tech they have.

But it does what I want and I don't think they make it anymore. It has been incredibly rugged and withstood a lot of abuse.

I tend to get very attached to my tech, I don't update unless something is dead.

I also like if someone finds my phone the only notable thing on it would be the Blogger App. They could do a mobile blog or look at my posts but that's it. And my blog is public anyway. No Facebook, no email, no banking apps.

Your phone is an internet node tied constantly to someone else's network. The manufacturer can send firmware, code and instructions to your phone at any time. The carrier can funnel every call, text, email or internet search through servers for analysis and allow the government access to that information in real time. Everything on your phone has always been accessible.

There's no rule you have to own a phone, or put personal information on one if you do have own one. People just do it because they can't be bothered with learning about an expensive piece of hardware because it's too difficult.

Besides, it's more fun to pretend someone in the government is tracking our boring, bodily functions.

Flip phone here. No internet. Have fun coppers!

Now being serious, cops had ways to get around phone passwords for years. I'm sure as fast as tech involves, new ways will be discovered and used.

All my phone has on it are hillary's e-mails and chelsea's wedding pictures.

My phone isn't locked to begin with. Nothing on it except my CW music and horse pictures. It doesn't do data.

I sent a pic of Hillary in a thong to someone once, I’m in trouble...

.
Actually, you only THINK it's a phone... it's actually the cloud server node that links Hillary's and Ivanka's private phone to all those people they sent stuff to... if only you could unlock it...

Face it. As fast as tech improves, the feds will come up with a way to clack it. They hire good people that do that. Or they contract out and get it from others.
I'd hate to think how many million they pay to do it. Maybe a billion or two, but hey... they have the money.

And when they find something they have a problem with, they simply go after the company and sue them until the company gives up. The feds have a lot of power and more money than most companies.

As I post this, I'm sure they can see it. I don't think they will care much about it though so I feel pretty safe stating it. Now there are ways to still communicate somewhat covertly. But you have to figure those out on your own.

Of course, if they add something to your phone, there is an accurate record of when (time and date) it was added.

I don't lock my phone. There is nothing but work related stuff on it, and goofy pics of friends and family. I would rather be able to get the phone to work, no matter what. Fingerprints, face ID and passcodes are all ways to introduce significant delay when under pressure, into what would otherwise be a handy item.

I had a situation where my screen went bad, I could not unlock the phone to transfer pictures, despite my best efforts. The problem is that the phone went bad immediately thereafter, prob due to water. So a good number of pics of my late friend are gone. That truly made me cry.

I tell my close friends that come around to bring a memory stick with them. I get them set up and they download pictures to the stick. When their phones completely crap out, they don't lose those pictures.

I've seen it happen. A friend of mine had a great picture of me in an M-60 tank (yeah outdated I know but I was in the turret and we had mud coming off the tracks ) and his phone crapped. I'll never see that picture again.

I SO need to change "mom" to "drug dealer" dad to "assassin", etc.
Would be hilarious if I leave my phone around and people see the incoming!

Same here, now I am getting bad visions of being in some TSA dungeon being whipped into revealing the password for my Razr V3m's "internets". There are none dammit, leave me alone!
