Wow, Hannover is too big for me. Never been there, I have been to Hildesheim, and even der Rattenfängerstadt (Hameln) while in Detmold staying with the Brits during a REFORGER.
I could fill a page with cities I've been to while in Germany.
My wife is a Berliner, and we get the German news from Deutsche Welle on Dish network, plus friends and relatives still there. Not much of it is good though.

Just my opinion, but if I were in your schuhe, I would plan to bug out to Ober-Salzburg or anywhere in Süd Bayern.

Not a big city-person myself, either... but at the moment don't have another option, workwise and fund-related. Need to work on that, I guess.

Seems you know my bigger neighbourhood here, OldWarrior. *lol* Hildesheim is about an hour away from where I live here.

Agree with you on the freedom-quote... often get the vibe that the plan is to turn all people into barcodes...

Welcome from southeast Nebraska.
I've enjoyed many layovers in Germany. Nothing more than 72 hours though.
Just couldn't seem to get stationed there. Good food , good Beer and great People.

Glad you enjoyed it here, hope these good memories stay with you USAF-ORF... things are getting tougher here in the next months, that's for sure... feels so... strange... living here right now. Like payback-time for political **** ups on all sides.
What do you folks over there say... "There goes the neighbourhood", ja?

Keep your head down, eyes n mind open brother. Turmoil seems to be everywhere.

I see you're poking around in other threads, good. Drink it in. And again, welcome.

Yeah, guess that's the best thing I can do right now, since I came rather late to the party. Situational awareness is what I'm into (at?) right now, knowing exits, keep an eye on peoples behaviour. Started re-reading this book by an ex-FBI profiler how to read people, spotting lies, threatening behaviour... damn, it's a LOT to keep your focus at!

Sitting on the train right now, the first time I have a BOB-*light* with me...

Have not yet come around to finish reading it, since I read twenty things parallel(ly?), but it set the gears in motion.
Realized it'd be good to be equipped for some things that might happen eventually... power blackouts, food and water for three days, got that covered now.

Also think about the future a lot, with things happening here in Germany right now that will have an impact on the next couple of years. I'm by no means paranoid, but I also don't have much faith in our political CEOs, Merkel and her Band of Incompetence. I'll admit, there's a slight amount of fear involved when I read online debates from people debating pro and contra - refugee-situation. This thing is really dividing our Nation like nothing else in recent years!

Hope to use these boards to find some information and insights that will stay with me when it goes down south here.

Greetings from Maryland. Spent a few years in Stuttgart prior to the wall coming down and was in county when it did. 87-91. Enjoyed in immensely! A lot of changes happened then as they are now.

Welcome from sonoma california usa. I hope you find some useful info here and make some friends along the way. I am mostly german and dutch but from a hundred or so years ago i don't know specifics of origins. Would have been nice to have had a german language option in highschool, but we just got spanish. Hola, como estas.. lol anyway those folks at the top that are wrecking everything only look incompetent from our normal point of view. They are actually just paid traitors of the people, paid by the banks and corperations to do theiir bidding and simply play the fools to us so we dont riot and hang them. Hit me up any time. Best of luck.

Euro...

Become a hunter... I am. makes owning guns here in Germany actually pretty easy once you jump through all the hoops up front.
