No flint down around San Diego. Quartz can spark, but not as well. Get a good USGI magnesium firestarter- it will start anything, waterproof pack of NATO survival/lifeboat matches, a new Bic lighter or two, and most of all, a small magnifying glass. Having a little tinder is a good idea, too- when its wet 'n nasty, need fire the most!!!

Not all steel strikers are created equal. Not by far. The correct steel, hardening, tempering all make important changes in the way a steel strikes. Mine was made by a local blacksmith that is no longer in business I wish I had ordered a few more. Sorry I don't have an internet site for you to help you on your search.
