Default Gab Just Offered A New Browser

Advertise Here

Gab (Twitter's number one competitor and free-speech advocate) just created and launched a new browser called "Dissenter." I am currently using it and it works wonderfully so far. I quit Twitter a long time ago and went to Gab. I also use Minds and BitChute instead of any Google products like YouTube. For anyone fed up with the anti-free-speech, big-tech companies like Google, Firefox, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I suggest looking for freedom-loving alternatives. I, for one, will no longer feed the beast with my time, attention, or money.

I believe it may be an offshoot of Brave which (if I'm not mistaken) is an offshoot of Chrome. Chrome, of course, is a Google product but it's highly intrusive and cares not about our privacy. I believe Brave and Dissenter have taken the Chrome concept but modified it for personal security. I wish I knew more about the inner workings.

Here's what wikipedia has to say:

Quote:
Brave is a free and open-source web browser developed by Brave Software, Inc. based on the Chromium web browser. The browser blocks ads and website trackers.
Here's a review on Brave from March of this year:

https://www.theverge.com/2019/3/4/18...ement-chromium

Dissenter is a fork of Brave.

So I just installed Dissenter. It asked to import bookmarks from the "Old version" which turns out was Brave. It looks just like Brave with the same setup tab, ad blocking, cookies, scripts, etc.

I'm going to check it out. Thanks!

====

Okay, it's just like Brave except it allows you to comment on any website if you first create an account with Dissenter and log in. Not sure I want to comment on a bunch of websites but I'll use it for a while and see if I like it.

Very fast, just like Brave.

====

Went to Gateway Pundit with Dissenter. Bunch of ads down the right side. None with Brave.

===
Edit 7/19

I removed Dissenter. No advantage over Brave for me at least. Somehow it managed to turn on javascript blocking which disabled the SB toolbar for posting. Took me a while to find the problem.

Thanks for this post. I've been having issues downloading pictures and other data to SB. Also, I used to open links directly from my email but Dissenter doesn't allow me to open links directly. I have to open a private window no matter what the link is. This is bothersome so I may give Brave a try.

I guess Brave is based on Chromium, like Chrome is. Chromium is the open source base without google specific stuff that the chrome has.

That's actually good to know. I really want nothing to do with Google if I can help it. Interestingly, I had to get an extension (uBlock Plus) from the Chrome store. But it does as good a job as AdBlock Plus did when I used that. It's currently blocking 13 ads or trackers at this moment.

Yep, because most of the plugins are made by 3rd parties

It seems even more enmeshed with google and chrome than even brave. I want a browser that uses neither, Something like Firefox used to be before they sold out

I agree with you, BUT Dissenter seems to be strongly intertwined with chrome and google. When I wanted to get an adblocker, my only option was to go through their "webstore" which was chock full of chrome and google products. So, I immediately deleted it.

With Google and Firefox cornering the market I'm not too sure where to go from here. I liked this post: https://www.survivalistboards.com/sh...06&postcount=4

I guess "Chromium" isn't the same as "Chrome." But, like you, I had to buy my uBlock program from the Chrome store. However, knowing Gab as I do, I'm pretty certain that they've developed walls that will keep the snooping eyes of Google out of our business but I can't say that with any amount of certainty.

I have been using Opera which also is based on Chrome, for several years.

One thing I have noticed is, it does not play well with some websites.

As an example, I was trying to used United Airlines flight tracker yesterday.

I got a notice my browser was not supported, and it recommended Chrome,
Firefox, or Safari.

Used to get same notice from Kroger website too.

Will do me no good for now, as it's not for XP Pro, but I have bookmarked it. When I install MX Linux on my secondary HDD, I'll give it a try.

Dissenter just tried to access my camera -- ESET Smart Security blocked it and reported it to me. Not good! But I do love ESET. It's been a very good security system for the many years I've used it.

I have tape over my camera anyway so there isn't much these big tech companies can do to spy on me and my home via my computer cameras.

I have my Computer a LapTop set up in a small closet and run wires to a Monitor and Keyboard outside. My LapTop camera looks at a Gray Wall, thinking of Hanging a Picture of Freedom for it look at.
